Hey Redrock! Check out this site: http://www.jshine.net/astronomy/dark_sky/
It identifies where light pollution is and about how far it goes out. That's just one part though. You also need to know the settings for your lens. If you have any questions on that let me know via PM. :)

Staying on the topic of astrophotography, tonight I travelled south of the city to reduce light pollution a bit. The difference between this next photo and my first are night am day! :)

However this was still taken in a fairly (light) polluted area.

Bob, The Fall Colors are better in the Hill Country than Vermont right now. Nice shot! :eatdrink047:

Alaska's Denali, shot from the back of Talkeetna Lodge. The mountain is so massive you simply cannot appreciate its grandeur by looking at a photo, you have to see it in person. The mountain is miles away from the lodge, and this shot is zoomed in quite a bit.

Another view of Denali with a wider angle. You can get a better sense of the distance from the lodge. Before the clouds cleared where Denali could be seen, the blue mountains in front were impressive. After the clouds cleared, not so much! The blue mountains are similar in height to the Rockies.

A couple shots of tonight's blood moon during the eclipse. I was surprised. To the eye the moon was pretty dark but it showed up well in the pics.

Here are my best photos of the Supermoon last night. I had to drive nearly 2 hours to get out of the cloud cover.

Sunday was a beautiful evening. The last day of my holiday before back to work. We spent the afternoon out for dinner than a walk on the beach. It was so warm for a September evening.

I really love this shot. It reminds me of the 4th moon of Yavin and I love the transition from an earth sky to deep space.

My shots of the red moon was not at all successful (actually it was pure crap). It may have been due to the fact that I did not bother to venture out from my own bedroom to take them.

But I tried to take a few shot of the full moon the following night. The red stuff had worn off and it was quite becoming because the moon looked absolutely glowing. Perhaps it was pregnant?
Anyway, my planned shot did not turn out the way I hoped, but I managed to take a picture of my favourite paddling "ground"

While at it, I took the opportunity to take a "macro" shot too. I wanted to see if I saw Muad'Dib, but sadly I did not
