    October 15 Focus Shave 11

I took my favourite razor to the pasted stop and it payed off. Also used my big Woodhead scuttle for some nice hot lather. The first 3 passes were great, no irritation and allot of beard reduction. I was able to complete 2/3 of the 4th pass and I getting a little farther in this pass. Applied the alum and light irritation and almost BBS. Irritation A-, closeness A-

Off to Fukuoka Japan tomorrow for the weekend, so my next focus shave will be next week.

You're still learning, so you can expect some ups and downs with your shaves. You've got a few decades to get it all figured out. :p Seriously, it took me nearly a year to develop a technique that provided consistently good results.

It's helpful to reevaluate the shave to see if you can determine the problem. You can always go back to the most recent set up that provided a good shave and try to replicate it. From there, you can change one variable at a time, evaluate the impact of the change, and continue on with your focus.

The more details you provide, the more we can help. Stick with it, and you'll be fine. :happy088:

Just ask the pharmacist, and he/she will direct you to the glycerin. I get mine at the local Walmart - the only place on earth where you can get mulch, green beans, a haircut, tires, kitchen towels, a gallon of milk, and glycerin. It helps, but if you are making your lather correctly, you shouldn't need it for a good shave.

I'd talk about sports, but I'm a Browns fan. I don't know anything about sports.

Or my pet bull.....I. Gore. Not to be confused with Al Gore. Nor Gore Vidal, whom I tend to want to call Gore Vidal Sassoon. Which rhymes with bassoon. And cartoon. And lampoon. And harpoon. Sorry, my stream of conciousness got a bit lost. Now I have to go track it down again. :angry032:

    L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic
Van Der Hagen Luxury Shave Soap (@CyanideMetal style)
    Alum
    Mennen Skin Bracer

No idea why, but I decided to use the VDH as a shave stick today. This was the first puck I ever bought. It's amazing how much better this soap has gotten in the last year. ;) Seriously, don't buy into the VDH haters, today's lather was La Toja good! The Asco and the FB on 8 yielded near BBS on 2. This was the best, easiest shave of the year so far. No kidding. VDH, who knew? Kept it real old school on the finish...alum was very quiet, no burn at all from the AS! Last warm day on the prairie, fall is moving in tonight. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a triumphant Thursday!

I haven't used the VDH luxury but the deluxe is my head shave soap. And I've used it a few times for my regular shave too. I agree....VDH soap is one of the best kept secrets in the shaving world. But then, so is their boar brush that comes in the kit with the deluxe soap and bowl.

I take it then, that it's not the first time?!!!

Remember, a stream of consciousness is a terrible thing to waste.

I'm a big fan of the VDH soap and definitely the boar brush. I got really lucky on the brush and mine hardly sheds since the first week using it and has done a great job. The soap just works. Boring as heck but it just works.

It's really good, slightly sandalwood, totally boring, high-performance soap. It goes on my "recommended" list.

OCtober 30 Day Focus -- Cadet Open Comb

    October 14

    Razor – Cadet Open Comb
    Blade – Personna Lab Blue
    Brush – VDH Boar
Soap – Stirling Gin and Tonic
Post - Cold Water Splash, Witch hazel, clubman

Moved on from the Voskhod to the Personna Lab Blue. This one performed about equal to the Voskhod in the L6. I was hoping it would do better in the cadet. Well first pass was a little rough. Definitely some tugging. Good reduction and only minor irritation in the end. Second pass less tugging, really seemed to slice through smoothly until my Adams apple. No idea what happened but got two weepers, one on either side. Rinse and a healthy dose of witch hazel. Then put on the clubman. Whoa that lit me up. Not quite as bad as the fires burning from the Voskhod but still bad. End result was DFS but even my fiancee commented on the redness and irritation. The blade gets one more chance tomorrow to see if it gets better.

Looks a lot like mine, except mine doesn't have the circles on the cap. I really like the Old Type and I'm looking forward to comparing it to the NEW LC. Really nice of your Aunt. I'm sure she'll enjoy hearing that you like shaving with it.

Why? Do you think you had a bad technique day?

Oh, and the Clubman was just congratulating you on being a man...

Got some serious congratulating yesterday and today. Hopefully the aftershaves will be done with the congratulations for a while!

I don't believe it was technique but I also can't guarantee it. I tried to keep from putting any pressure but allowing the razor to do it's job. There was not as much feedback as some other blades but I know blades can be different. So my concern is whether I had the right angle or if it is a bad razor/blade matchup. I know the second day with the Voskhod I had good technique and it was still a bad shave so I am going to take my time and have good technique and make certain about the blade.

If I have a bad shave it will be back to the GSB and taking time to make sure my technique is not falling behind.

Sounds like a solid plan...GSB is my standard as well. Be sure to ride the cap, it smooths out the Cadet a bunch!
