October 16, 2015 OC October - This month I'll introduce myself to OC razors. Gillette New LC Gillette Goodwill Standard Safety Razor OC Schick Type C1 OC Morning shave Hot Shower Soap: La Toya stick Brush: Vintage Rubberset Travel Brush Razor: Schick Type C1 OC Blade: Schick (China) (4) TSD Witch Hazel Aftershave: Vintage Old Spice This was probably the last shave of the focus with this razor and my travel gear setup. I had consistent, solid shaves this week. My travel gear needs to provide a consistent, reliable and most times, a quicker shave than my usual morning shave at home. This set-up provides it. The La Toya produces a quick, easy and rich lather with just enough of a spice, tobacco and barbershop scent to linger awhile, while being subtle. When using the Arko stick, I get approximately the same result, except for the scent so I’ll be able to interchange these two for variety. The C1 razor and Schick (Chinese) blade provides a very clean, consistent shave and will be reliable that way - as long as I ditch the blade after about three - four shaves. (Today’s 4th was still good but not as sharp as the first.) I’ll use this kit about once a week, so it will provide me an easy blade-changeout-schedule of once a month. I’m happy to have found some vintage products that not only provides a solid shave while being extremely compact, but are also aesthetically pleasing as well. Cheers! RT
I think aesthetically pleasing is an understatement with this kit....Most cats spent they whole lives and never get a shave this aesthetically pleasing...ha,ha...Although granted, cats around here are an exception!
Rapide... Three Pass Shaving Routine... Hot Water prep & massage with Coconut Oil German Rapide SE Gem Stainless blade (Shimmed - New) Semogue Boar Brush Wars Classic Shaving Cream (added Argan oil) Organic Aloe Vera Gel Logona Mann Aftershave Splash The German Rapide I have was made in 1898 and is the most aggressive SE that I have...I call it "Jaws" and you can see why...I got it NOS and she is in lovely condition...I whacked down 4 days of whiskers with ease...This razor is not for a beginner that's for sure....I had a lovely ever so close most perfect BBS result with the Rapide...As the Germans would say...Wunderbar... Three passes, with a Gem Micromatic OC, William's Mug Shaving Soup, Gem Blue Star blade (7) and Aqua Vela Blue Ice for after shave. Nice way to start the day with an OC SE shave and during OC month.
Well I actually meant the the shave gear is "aesthetically pleasing" not my mug! But hey, you already knew both of those facts!
Would be great to see pictures of other angles of this razor! Is that a spring mechanism mounted under the head? Karl
The King is dead, long live the King! I got my replacement PAL Injecto Matic yesterday from Technichi_shave. (who deserves a shout out as the most customer service oriented seller I've dealt with.) Well, well, well, what a difference in experience. From the first stroke I knew that my favored early type E2 was in jeapordy of being dethroned. Each stroke and each pass was smooth and efficient and ever so satisfying. Like a figure skater on ice this razor just glides along like no one's business. What more can I say? An all around BBS with one minor weeper the first time out. As I usually get some sort of cut with a new blade this was quite a performance. It is deceptively smooth. No need for adding any pressure to nip those whiskers right at the skin. The PAL Injecto Matic does it on its own as if it were on automatic pilot. Just to be fair, I think tomorrow I will try a head-to-head of my E2 and the PAL. It may be a close call but today's experience tells me the new King is the odds on favorite to retain the crown. The Schick has been Out - Schicked then Karl...These are Almighty Shavers for sure..I am glad you like it..They have got to be the most unrecognised Razors ever made Sir...With a Chick blade they are a Match made in Heaven...They cause a lot of controversy as well in some Forums...I reckon that most folks have never used one and just repeat some negative reviews like Parrots..I gave one to my brother and said to him...The PAL Injectomatic comes with a Billyfergie Public Health Warning....Prepare yourself for your Schick to get blown right out the window...He called me up and said...You burst my bubble..My Schick's have just been blown out the window... Billy..
Are you sure you weren't influenced by how pretty this one is....Looks like you bought it new from your Drug Store yesterday....ha,ha...Really does look great....I haven't tried one of these in like 40 years.....think I need to take on out for a spin myself.... I remember I wanted to buy one.....maybe early 70's? And my Pop was with me and asked me not to embarass him in public and wait til he wasn't with me......He was a confirmed Schick-head since he first started shaving....If he walked into our family bathroom and one of the kids left their Super-Speed on the sink, he'd just casually toss it in the trash like he was cleaning up a little....ROTFLOL!....Like I said.....I grew up in a Schick Household....ha,ha...
That is a real treasure. I'm surprised it has survived all these years in such fine condition! Your the man!!!
Looks do count but the E2 isn't exactly shabby! Do yourself a favor and get one of those PALs - delayed gratification is still gratification!
As a formerly faithful Gillette fan I have to admit I'm succumbing to the beauty, diversity and sheer efficiency of Schick razors. The rabbit hole's just taken another turn. Regards, Chris
The head to head shave off is complete and the results are in - the PAL Injecto Matic keeps the crown. While both razors give an exceptionally fine shave the PAL stood out on several dimensions. First and foremost it simply is a better shaving experience. By that I mean it's easy to find the best angle and it provides a little more audible feedback. I had fewer occasions of needing to go back over an area where I didn't have the blade at the best angle. Second, it did a better job in the areas where I have the coarsest whiskers. I didn't do a touch up pass and there was clearly more stubble in the chin and under the chin and along the jawline for the E2. There were a few areas of light stubble for the PAL. I was a little rushed so there was more stubble than what I'd expect but both razors faced the same conditions. Third, the Schick clogged up a little more. I needed to rinse it in the sink and run it under hot water more often. There was one area where the Schick was the winner. It felt like it had a little more heft in my hand and I liked that but this is clearly a YMMV thing. To sum it up, the PAL was more efficient and enjoyable to use. However, if I was stranded on a desert island and could only take one razor with me, I'd be happy with either (but would be hoping for the PAL.) Karl
Great write up Sir...If the PAL injector was sold today in the Supermarkets it would probably close all the cartridge razor factory's in a year or so... Its very easy to use and as you say its that efficient and ever so smooth...This knowledge can only come from the experience of their Balanced Yin & Yang Power.. They are Serious Whisker Whacking War Machines for sure... Billy...
OCMM Three Pass Shaving Routine... Hot Water prep & massage with Coconut Oil OCMM Gem Stainless Blade 3 Semogue Boar Brush Erasmic Shaving Cream (added Argan oil) Organic Aloe Vera Gel Logona Mann Aftershave Balm Had an evening shave with my OCMM...Whacked down a 3 days worth of whiskers no problems...The OCMM always demands focus and one really needs to be in the right mind set I reckon to get the best from it...I have a really close BBS result with no irritation to speak of but just used my Logona mann aftershave balm for some insurance cause I knew it was close call...A seriously close shave...Guten Nacht ... Billy...
You know Billy....I think you are absolutely right....If the PAL inject-omatic was being mass marketed today...it would change the whole shaving marketing scene....But like in the Arts, Lit, and Music, the truth will never be Top-40.. Disclaimer......Hey, I don't mean this to be Political....I'm just applying a quote from one specific context over to this one....whew....No offence to anyone and YMMV.....ha,ha...
Me with a Hang Over in all my Glory... Yeah...There is only one Truth Sir...My Martial Arts Teacher is nearly 70 and worked in London & all over the Country as a Sessional Player for most of his life and he's always going on about that ...I am so fortunate that I met one of life's dedicated and Sincere Artists...I have met so called Disciple's that are International faces from all the over the World and they have a watered down Art at best....There are few Sincere & Dedicated men of these Life Arts going around anymore as my Teacher calls them... Billy..
