October - Trick or TREET October 20 Razor - Gillette Post War (46-50) Fat Handle Tech Blade - (2) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Post - Cold Water, Alum, Aqua Velva Musk Day two on the "New" Double Edge by Treet. It's always a good day when BoSFat comes up in rotation. The blade looks great, the lather is showing off to try and make me forget the Tabac yesterday so here we go. Great first pass, still smooth and pretty effective. I watched the angle to try and help the FH Tech out this morning but I still think I get better passes from the Ball End. Lathered for the XTG and with a bit of extra effort ended with a nice finish on that pass, other than my neck. So, did a full ATG third pass plus G-slides on my neck. This razor is mild enough that with this blade I can get a pretty steep angle on the slide. Finished better than yesterday, still DFS but better. I can't blame any problems on the blade today. The razor is just that mild. One more thing on my list to find out.....will a Feather/Kai improve the razor's performance? I've used Voskhod in it and gotten good results. Better than the Treet, but not by much to be honest. Just wondering if a notch up in sharpness would make a difference with it. I think it's somewhere around 43 on my experiment list. Great late October day today and the last day of the sales month so I'm out to hit it hard. They're saying sunny and 85 today. Not bad for the Lou in October. have a great day!
That's what I LOVE about this hobby! What works for you may or may not work for me. But we all have the one common goal. A DFS.. And a brotherhood. And sisterhood..
October 21 (for real, this time) 20's Old Type Astra SP (3) Nothing special for BTTF day (unfortunately, I don't have any razors from 1985, 1955 or 1885)... just a one-pass CCS with a little touch-up on the jawline. I did win an auction for a #160 Goodwill in the early hours of the AM, but that probably won't get here until Monday. JR
October 20, 2015 OC October - This month I'll introduce myself to OC razors. Gillette New LC Schick Type C1 OC Standard Safety Razor OC Gillette Goodwill Morning shave Hot Shower Soap: Proraso Green Brush: Brush: Omega Pro 48 Boar Razor: Standard Safety Razor OC (Germany) Blade: 7 o’clock (Blues) (3) TSD Witch Hazel Aftershave: Proraso Green AS Splash Two-pass shave. Another excellent shave for this combo. I’ll finish the week off with a different blade for this razor. I still need work with the C1, but so far this month has taught me that I really like the OCs. I had not known anything about the Standard razor, but its a very good shaver. Play Ball! (Can anyone say Sweep?!! - Let's Go Mets!) RT
Thank you for your thoughts. Since my friend has all the ATT heads I have tried out all but the H1 and H2. I really enjoyed the R2 but actually prefer my Wolfman OC to it. I'll give the H1 a try sometime soon.
Excuse me??? Sorry I have been away and did not get to immediately defend the honorable profession which I have chosen . . . oh who am I kidding! Yep, their standards really are low enough to allow in an attorney!
I'd like to try the Wolfman myself one day. Do you have the stock blade gap or the modified larger gap?
I went with just the stock gap and I have found it to be just as efficient as the R2 (even better above my lip since the head is thinner) but the Wolfman is smoother and less prone to bite back. I do plan on ordering one with the increased blade gap whenever James starts taking orders again. I know I could send it back and increase the gap but I do not want to mess up the good thing I have on something I might like.
OCtober 30 Day Focus -- Cadet Open Comb October 21 Razor – Cadet Open Comb Blade – TREET Platinum Brush – VDH Boar Soap – Stirling Spice Post - Cold Water Splash, Witch hazel, Old Spice Had to rush out so no picture today. I did not shave yesterday because of the night shave Monday. So today I decided to join Neal (@NCoxSTL) on his TRICK or TREET mission. I am using the TREET Platinum which he has already used and found to be a good shave--or a TREET. After my last shave provided me a reminder of the technique, blade angle, and pressure requirements (I think I have heard something about those lately) with this razor, I was making sure to give it my attention. The blade and razor rewarded me with a good, comfortable, DFS shave. The blade had no signs of tugging or having difficulty with the day and a half growth. It gave no irritation and no blood letting. I think this blade might be very closely behind the GSB and Ladas blades. The blade worked very well and at least shave one was a TREET. Hopefully the blade will hold up and not fall apart over the next couple shaves.
The Cadet OC is a terrific razor. In regard to efficiency and aggressiveness, right up there with the R41/2013 and the Fatip.
It definitely has gotten no complaints from me. It has been a joy to use and has delivered some of my best shaves to date! It also is quick to remind you if you fail to pay attention to blade angle or pressure. I got a lot of leeway with my first razor, a Lord L6. That one had a generous sweet spot so variation did not come back to bite me. The Cadet has a very narrow sweet spot with blade angle and you know it if you get outside of it. I think it was a great second razor to spend significant time on because it has caused me to really pay attention and not get lax with placing the blade where it needs to go.
