So I used to love the blues but now I listen to a bit of everything. I'm trying to get back into some good ol' time blues. I've been listening to Watermelon Slim all day and absolutely love it. I love the old acoustic and screaming electric guitar sounds. I figure most of you have some time on me and more experience with it than I do. Whos got suggestions?
Buddy Guy muddy waters I was watching Eric Clapton's Cross Roads Concert series the other day. There were several Chicago Blues performers that were pretty good but I can not remember the names.
That's a good place to start, don't discount Clapton himself :1respect John Lee Hooker Johnny Winter (You want screaming guitars, this is your guy) Stevie Ray Vaughn John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers Check this out The old stuff is great, but I find myself listening to the better quality recordings these days :ashamed001
Screaming electric guitar sounds = Hound Dog Taylor. Specifically this record: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000009X7/?tag=thshde-20 It's on iTunes, too, I think. Dave
Thank you everybody! I've been going through listening to all the guys you've mentioned and so far they're all great. Theres nothing like some screaming guitar blasting out the stereo.
It's pretty local stuff, but we're trying to get Mac Arnold to come do a blues or music presentation at the history museum where I work. Now I realize you're not coming all the way to Greenville to hear this guy, but his website is pretty cool. And his music is hot!
Awesome. I'll check that out tomarrow afternoon when I've got some time. I know there are some more southern guys who know some good blues artists. Keep em' coming guys!
Roy. The greatest, "unknown", in the world of blues musicians, Roy Buchanan. This a tune called, "When a Guitar Plays the Blues". It gets real good right about three minutes in. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf_PWoayk6s
From the Crossroads 2007 video: Robert Cray, Hubert Sumlin, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, B.B. King, are a few.
