Hi all, I've been looking around the forums learning all i can about DE shaving. Been looking a Mantic's videos too. Safety razors seems like a set up from my current routine of razor bumps and expensive cartridges. I hope to learn enough to get going! Been looking around and wanted to say hello. Chuck
Hello, Chuck. And welcome to The Shave Den!! Hope you find what you're looking for here. Nice bunch of folks! Enjoy your stay!!
Welcome to The Shave Den, Chuck! Even though you haven't started your wetshaving journey just yet, don't miss the Newbies Give-Away! Now we just need to get you a good starter brush. The Classifieds are a great place to find some deals! IMO, a brush and soap or cream is a great place to start.
Welcome Aboard! Don't be afraid to ask questions. Their are no dumb questions, just dumb answers (from me anyway).
Welcome Chuck, we're glad to have you here. Lots of good information here as well as some good deals in the classifieds. Enjoy!
Welcome to The Shave Den, Chuck!! A safety razor along with a good brush and some nicer soaps and creams will DEFINITELY be a step up from cartridges! Take the plunge.
OKay, im pretty sold on the superspeed. It seems to be a good starting razor for a newbie. How does the Merkur razors compare to a superspeed, or any gillette for that matter?
Theyre all great shavers. You can probably pick up an SS for about 12$ shipped while a Merkur will cost you another 15$ or so dollars on top of that. If your just looking to give it a try a SS would be a great starter razor. Check out the BST forum.
Welcome aboard! If you want to babystep your way into a brush, grab a Tweezerman badger brush. You can get them for $15 at places like Whole Foods, or for less than that online (Amazon, and at least one other place that eludes me at the moment). It won't last you forever, but it's a very credible starter brush. Another benefit is that it'll help you start to form preferences as to what kinds of brushes you might like (Softer than the Tweezerman? Bigger? Different handle?) And your investment for all this is $15. If you do have a Whole Foods handy, you can grab some Kiss My Face shaving cream, which is a very good low-cost cream. Of course, you have tons of other options, but that'd get you started easily, quickly, and effectively. Regardless, again, welcome and enjoy!
Wow, thanks. That tweezerman does seem like a really great deal. Is the quality bad for it to be so cheap?
Welcome, Chuck! I use the Tweezerman badger brush on a daily basis and have for over a year. I really like the brush. It's held up fine and, I think, it's a very good value on a budget
I seriously doubt you'll regret that order. I still remember getting mine after using boar brushes. It'll serve you well for a while, and give you a baseline to make better informed decisions if (ha ha...when) you decide to upgrade. Toward that goal, a very good next step, as you'll quickly discover from the board, is the Crabtree & Evelyn (C&E) Best Badger Brush (BBB), made by Edwin Jagger, from which you can also buy it in different handles. At a comparatively low $35 price, it's a monster value, too. That brush could last you for years. But, now I'm enabling. :happy102 Enjoy that Tweezerman!
