Traveling with a Mastro Livi RWL34

This is my first Mastro Livi straight razor made of RWL34 stainless steel, a razor I bought a little more than two years ago. I must say, it was love at first sight with this amazing stainless steel, as I consider it to give a very smooth and deep shave although somewhat agressive, however very performing. I have never honed this razor, not even a simple touch up on chromium oxide, and it still shaves like the first time. When I ordered this razor I asked Mastro Livi if I could make a video of its making and he allowed me to film it. In case you are curious to watch it, below you will find the link to this video. This RWL34 is the straight razor I chose to take with me in this business trip and I am sure it will make a great companion, not to mention the incredible shaves it will give me while I am away from home.

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Muhle R101 (2011), H. Boker straight razor
    Blade: Pol Silver Iridium (3)
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Soap: RazoRock - Don Donato
After: Home made ASB, Aqua Velva Musk after shave
    Cologne: Midnight In Paris

Another great shave this morning. The #6 brush whipped the Don Donato soap into a wonderful lather. The R101 paired with the Pol Silver blade and the Boker did their jobs with ease. The AV and the Midnight In Paris were a nice finish for the almost BBS shave.

    Have a blessed day!

Post - Cold Water, Alum, Aloe

Day four and hanging in there with the same setup. Looking a bit rough but it could be worse. I think the added aloe at night has helped. Had a bit of a problem with the lather this morning which is unusual. I think I went just a little too dry on the brush. The load looked good but it turned out a bit thin. It was workable though so off to the shave.

Standard technique starting on the right. I was a bit concerned about the cut from yesterday but got past that fine. Finished the right side completely and under the chin, then went left. I ended up doing Japanese grip for the first pass then switched to left hand for the second. On the second neck pass I opened the cut under my chin again. Seems like a daily problem. Need to reassess how I'm getting under there. I also went on the diagonal on the neck, same direction I usually Gillette Slide, but without any sliding motion. I just don't see anything good coming from any horizontal movement with this thing.

I noticed at the end I have one very small nick right on the cheekbone on my right side along with a couple of others in that area that have accumulated this week. Another area to focus on getting across a bit more smoothly. Overall a pretty nice CCS that I cooled off and conditioned with aloe. Looks and feels about as good as it has this month so far so that's something.

It's Wednesday - you know what that means.

It's hard for me to tell from the picture; are the scales translucent or opaque?

    Hi together,

today i wanted to have good shave after a hard day at work. Here is my setup:

    Mitchell´s Wool Fat // B2 Mongoose // KAI Captain Titan Mild (5) // Semogue 620 // Alt Innsbruck

I haven´t used the Mitchell´s and the Alt Innsbruck for a very long time. Smells great and pairs nicely with the scent of the Mitchell´s.

Now i´m thinking to enjoy a dram of Whiskey. Woodford Reserve, Maker´s Mark or Dalwhinnie 15y?!

Have a good time and take care.

    Greetings
    Thorsten

    Yes....

They are translucent and the coloring is very dramatic when backlit. Hard to capture in photos.

Thanks Doug. I'm enjoying the Fine Platinum and L'Orange Noir aftershaves. When I shave at night, like I'm doing now, I use the aftershave the following morning. I hope you are having a great week.
