  1. You're gonna have to do some crazy shave after this month. Impossible razor, terrible blade, Irish spring lathered with a cotton ball or something. I miss the excitement.

  2. If you want him to really be challenged tell him to lather williams with a cottonball then shave with a flying eagle in a cheap <$2 shavette. I think he likes Irish spring better then williams.

  5. Are you kidding? If given a choice of Williams or Lava hand soap......I'm taking the Lava. I have started thinking about my December plans. Whatever I do the Wolf Whiskers brush is going to get some time since it's still pristine (other than the break in) on the shelf. However I do have a number of untried blades and I also have the Durham Duplex I haven't tried yet. Plus another project in the works with @Drygulch. I don't see December being dull.
  6. I'm honored. The son I never wanted. YES!!!! :bounce015:
  7. Seems like a few of those have been popping up here lately.

  8. I have a bar of Lava downstairs. I wonder if it 'would' lather. I have to try at some point. Are you joining me in December on the straight razor?

  9. Yeah, apparently I failed to use proper shave forum protection. Gotta remember....always practice safe forum!

  10. I see a straight in my future in December but not exclusively (probably). We'll see. The Durham Duplex is an early version of a "safety straight" razor. But again, I don't see an entire month with it (yet anyway).

  13. Might be hard to do the detail work shaving. Could you imagine the time it would take on the hones?

  14. No doubt. That sword actually resides in the Truman Library in Missouri. It belonged to the Emperor of Nippon (Japan).

  15. nice blade, beautiful through simplicity and function. Be easier to sharpen and shave with the Kogatana then it would the sword itself. Certainly easier then the axe I've seen Nicolai shave with. Crazy Russian. I'm blaming it on being a boxer and having too many blows to the head.

  16. Just use them Russian DE blades...risk aplently!

    Gillette Super Speed Y3
    Vulfix Super Badger (660)
Mama Bear's Soaps Black Code type
    Georgetown G12 Scuttle
    Pinaud Clubman Original

Mama Bear's Soaps Black Code type and shave #4 with the 4th Gillette Silver Blue in my Birth Quarter Super Speed.
This Mama Bear soap has a metal tin and the soap sticks over the top of the tin. Rather than putting water on the top, I took the soap out, added as thin layer of hot water to the bottom of the tin, and then returned the soap to the tin. After it sat for a couple of minutes, I poured the water from the tin into my scuttle, and put the soap in the palm of my hand with the wet, gooey side up. I used my damp brush to generate a huge amount of proto lather. While doing this, I dipped the brush from time to time into soapy water in my scuttle. Once the brush was over loaded, I regretfully dumped the remaining water from the scuttle to make room for the brush. I wiped off the soap and the tin bottom, to capture as much proto lather as possible, and returned the soap to the container and my brush to the scuttle. I took the proto lather from my left hand and rubbed it on my face and neck. Then I started building the lather in my scuttle. I added a little water occasionally and in no time had a huge amount of lather:

I wet my face and started to apply the lather. It was smooth, slick and went on nice and thick. I ran hot water over my razor and began my first pass. A warm water rinse showed me that I had gotten very nice reduction from my XTG pass. My second pass (ATG) was very nice. The lather provided good protection and the razor glided smoothly across my face and neck. I wet my face and neck and did a small amount of touch up where I could feel stubble. This left me with a near BBS. A cold water rinse followed by a small amount of touch up and I thought I had the baby. The Pinaud Clubman stung a small amount, but settled down quickly. I still had loads of soap when I finished, probably enough for 3 or 4 more passes:

About 20 minutes after the shave I realized that I did not quite capture the baby, but I came pretty close. The Mama Bear's Soaps Black Code type is a glycerin soap. It provided good protection and was really very nice. The fragrance was mild and pleasant, and so was this morning's shave. It appears things are progressing nicely thanks to all the advice you have given me.

I hope everyone has a great Friday!

    Aristocrat Focus November 20:

    Homemade PS Oil
    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Pre de Provence SS
    Gillette Aristocrat
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Skin Bracer

On day two of using a Gillette Platinum blade, I do find it to be a little less smooth than some of the other blades I have used this month. It was a definite drop off from yesterday. I still managed a DFS, but had a little tugging along with it. I may ditch this blade for another tomorrow.

Razor – ATT H1 with Triad Ti
    Blade – Feather (1)
Brush – Rudy Vey with TGN Finest
    Lather – Mystic Water Lime
    Post - Witch Hazel & Fine L’Orange

I decided to change things up this morning. My best friend, Wade, sent me his ATT H1 to try in comparison to the Wolfman. So I will go with this razor for the next several days in order to give it a fair shake. The ATT H1 is an solid bar razor and the most aggressive razor ATT makes. It has a fairly large blade gap but where it really differs from the Wolfman or even a Slim on 9, is the blade exposure outside the top cap.

I went with Mystic Water Lime this morning in solidarity with @Bill_F. I soaked the badger brush. Washed my face with pre-shave soap and then started in with MW Lime from a shave stick. With my face very wet, I rubbed the stick around my face until I had a nice covering of soap and started lathering in a circular motion adding water during the process. As the lather built, I changed to a paint stroke motion to thicken the lather up. In under 2 minutes from start to finish, I had a great thick, slick lather. In the end there was enough left over to have easily done 4 or 5 passes.

For the first my first shave with the H1, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave. Trying to concentrate and go slow while maintaining the correct angle. For the most part, I was successful. On the ATG pass I lost the angle just to the left of my lip and ended up with a pretty nice cut. First time, I have that happen in a good while. All in all in was a good near BBS shave. I would grade the shave as A- for closeness and a B for irritation. Finished off with witch hazel and a splash of Fine L'Orange. Happy Friday.
