First, welcome to the Den! Tried one years ago. Never felt like I got close enough. Used canned goo and carts for about 30 years and switched to DEs, brushes and a good puck of soap. That was about 8 years ago. Haven't looked back. Getting the best shaves of my life, super close, no irritation - shaving has gone from a "have to" to a "get to."
I have no doubt electric razors have come a long way since I last used one some 30 years ago. Still enjoy the ME TIME I experience from a warm lather giving off a pleasant scent, the feel of a soft brush, no tugging, pulling or irritation from my razor... Nope. Not giving it up. But that's me. Oh, and as far as it (the electric) being a time saver - if I don't have time to shave the way I want to and enjoy it, I don't shave. Again, that's me. It's your shave. Enjoy it your way.
I use trimmer part of the electric, to trim the hairs on the back of my neck. Then I use the regular part of the razor to keep the hairs cut back. Greg W.
Tried a couple over the years. By the time I got my shaves close enough, it felt as if a belt sander was run across my face
I have several excellent electric razors and do periodically use them just for the variation. More often, I periodically use one to catch a spot or two I missed in wet shaving. I have several difficult areas that are a problem depending upon what razor I am using, and the electric is a quick touch-up solution. I still have my Norelco triple head from years ago and it worked well, however many of todays electrics provide outstanding shaves rivaling wet shaving.
Welcome! I never used one, but if you enjoy them, that's good. Do the blades of an electric also need to be replaced?
I use a Panasonic ES8243 Arc 4 shaver after doing a first pass with a blade. The electric gets me closer than I can get going XTG with a blade (and I can't shave ATG with a blade without tearing my face up), but using a blade WTG for the first pass gets rid of longer hairs the electric has trouble with. The combination gives me a better shave than either method alone, and being able to use an electric with shaving cream makes the pass a lot easier, faster and more comfortable.
I used an electric for 35 years or so. My face always hurt and I never had as close a shave as with a DE. BUT, the electric is much quicker and easier to use. My old Braun sits in the dark recesses of my bathroom closet. I never tried an electric that could be used wet.
I used a Phillips rotary head for about 10 years while living in Germany. The only way I could get a non-irritating shave with it was to apply talcum powder before shaving. Thankfully, I have seen the light.
I own an Axe rebranded Braun shaver. I've used it a total of probably ten times. I felt it irritates my neck and feels like I barely cut anything. Although that's being unfair I've read that you have to shave with an electric for about a month consecutively for your skin to adjust. However, for speed factor, I can do a 2 pass DE or shavette shave in 5 minutes.
Use for thinning those irregular eyebrow hairs that appeared one day (aging effects) and thinning side burns. Have used for times when I missed a spot under nose (one of those days). Overall not a fan on face as I found the friction heat produced was not to my liking, need a lubricant when shaving. Like the process of wet shaving anyway !!!! Smells, water, feel and learning technique.
