Here is an update on my attempt at my own injector. I designed this so it can be fully disassembled for cleaning. As it is can come completely apart I will be able to dial in the comb for the right amount of aggressiveness. It will take a bit of trial and error to get it dialed in. I will be making the handle removable so different standard handles can be used. I will be making the prototype out of aluminum. when done I can see if it is a good weight and check the balance. When I make the real thing I will decide on final materials. I have a question for you all. Does anybody know a good starting point for blade exposure? I have it designed at the moment at .o10" Your input will be greatly appreciated as it will save me a boat load of trial and error possibly. I hope to start cutting in the next few weeks. I have only the weekends to do it. Tom
Yes it will be. Especially my first shave with it. I might have to take before and after pictures. I just might shave my face off.
Alloy sounds a great choice to me ...I am just throwing something up from the Top of my Head here...Perhaps a G Type would be a good starting point as its sort of middle of the road in terms of aggression ......Might be a good starting point...That said the PAL Injectomatic might be a good choice to measure up the gap & the exposure..Remember the exposure is on the forward horizontal plane between the comb & blade.....Good Luck ...Interesting .. Billy..
This will be fun! Am I mistaken or is there some borrowing of design elements from the top mounted spring on the H?
Billy thanks for the advise. I will take my razors to work and measure them. The way I designed mine it will be fairly easy to adjust the exposure. Simply by making different comb profiles. I will most likely make several to start with. Tom
You are correct. When I got mine last weekend it all came together. It is a super simple design that is easily machinable with my equipment. Great eye. Tom
Billy I might make a few extras once I have it to the point of not maiming anybody. I will lend these out for real world evaluation. You will be on the list I assure you. Tom
I am really hoping the aluminum works out. I do not think an injector needs to be very heavy if I can get the geometry right. Look at the E2 very light for a razor. The aluminum I can hard anodize and it will wear very well. Tom
+ 1 on that ...Easier to work with than something like Stainless as well ....Stainless as you will know is Horrid stuff to work with & its sore on tools.. Billy..
@Billyfergie In your opinion are Personna 74s worth $40.00 for 11 blades and are they good in the Pal adjustable?
Very nice sir! I love the handle on the E types! Something about bakelite just feels nicer than the plastic handled G. I love the G and one day I'll pick up an E if the price is right. Enjoy!
Well..That's a lot of Dough...These blades are a Special experience though ...No bones about it...They will work fine in any injector...Some folks don't like then because they are not as forgiving as some other blade...They are Crazy Sharp & last about as long a Chick blade for me...In my experience they are fine with a "Feather Touch"...That said I have found a Cut Down Feather Pro Blade to equal to the 74s in terms of sharpness but they don't last as long... Are they worth the Dough......Its certainly a Special Experience but so are the Cut Down Feather Pros.. Billy..
Like the injector comb idea. One of the benefits of a traditional Schick is the small head. How will this compare ? Crazy question with patents expired can't you copy "the best" injector be it Schick or PAL and week it ?
