I'll go with fan. The Shavemac flat top is a nice knot too but is quite dependent on hair type used, IMO.
Up until a month or so I would have said 'bulb shaped knot all the way!'....but lately I've been using my Wolf Whiskers with a fan knot in it..and I have to say that for face lathering there is something to be said about that shape. I really like it and if I ever get another custom brush or knot I will most likely go with a fan shape Loving the fan:
I prefer hybrid knots. Fan shaped on top, but with a bit of bulb shaping on the sides. You get the superior performance of the fan, and the aesthetics of the bulb. Basically a flat topped bulb. Someone posted earlier in the thread about a "mushroom" shape. That about covers it.
Not to rain on the parade.... What is the name of a knot if it is not fan or a bulb. I have fans and bulbs, and "regular" knots. Do the "regular" knots have a name?
Since we're resurrecting the thread, I'll vote for fan. Because of the way I load and head lather, my bulb knots have started to flatten out a bit anyway.
Completely mood dependent. Love fans around ears and short sideburn line for accuracy and bulb for chin and jawline areas for easy cornrering flow.
I agree. For face lathering, I like the knot to splay a bit. With a bulb, I feel like I'm poking myself with the brush.
