I used mine for 11 days in a row as part of my focus and have decided that it is moving back into my rotation. Great shaves.
Wow, I've been busy for a few days and got a little behind on this thread. Lots of shenanigans to wade through I switched to my birth quarter Slim a few days ago. I started at a setting of four and moved to six today. I definitely like the Slim on the higher numbers. With lite pressure, it does two pass BBS with very little cleanup. I have to say that I am also becoming a fan of Route 66 soaps. I'm torn between a description of great or amazing on the Sweeney Todd SOTD Route 66 Sweeney Todd soap Omega boar brush Gillette Slim (G4) Feather (4) Pitrulon Classic AS Have fun!
15 DEcember 2015 Late post Route 66 is so nice, I've used it twice. Matched up the Hair Tonic and the AS with the scent of the R66 Lumberjack for today's kit. Also, for @TomJ89de , I threw an Astra SP into the mighty, mighty MTO (Weishi 9306). This razor is highly underrated, IMHO. At this point I need to mention that Route 66 is flawless lather. Flawless in every way. Made sure to keep the angle low by riding the cap, and was rewarded with a near BBS on two+. Alum was good, AV Musk was a perfect match to the base notes in the soap. 17F with a foot of new white stuff on Tuesday. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
No shave today. I'm having blood sugar issues and am shaking worse then I feel comfortable shaving with. I'm eating and trying to get myself high enough to last through the night.
I use cold water exclusively and gave up pre shave oil. The rationale is that heat encourages inflammation, and oil defeats lather. When I first began DE shaving, I too used a hot prep routine and shave oil, and also experienced much irritation. The only prep I engage in now is a simple hand wash of my face in cold water and maybe some mild soap. I can't find the source material, but I have read that more than half of the material removed by the razor is actually dead skin cells. After I read that, @Jayaruh explained his "cold water/face lather" method to me, and I tried it. I've been doing no prep and using cold water ever since, and nearly all of my shaves are now irritation free.
Its a normal thing for me. Happens every week or two. My blood sugar drops and I have to eat everything in sight until it levels out. They keep telling me that I'm prediabetic. My fiance is a type 1 diabetic and I was a med tech for the last 4 years so I should be able to handle it if I ever slip over that line and become a full blown diabetic. I take as much care of myself as I'm able. I eat well, mostly vegetarian because my fiance is and its easier to make one meal. I exercise, I don't really drink except once every blue moon, I only smoke my pipe every now and then. I'm feeling better now and my blood sugar is back in a normal range but I still feel shaky so I'm going to wait till morning to shave. I've been sick the last few days and today the meds I took put me into a long deep sleep on the couch from 10am to 4pm so I will probably be up all night.
Is that red scaled razor a ЯХТА. If it is you'll have to tell us how it shaves. They are always on eBay for very little $$$ in great condition. theres a NOS one for a BIN of $40 on my watch list now.
I'm still up but I'm feeling much better now. I spend the shaky part of the night lapping an Arkansas stone and the less shaky parts honing my straights up to a 6k stone. I still have a few more hours of lapping before I can use the Arkie and get the razors shave ready. They will cut hair now but it wouldn't be comfortable. I'll drag out the blades for my Rolls razor this afternoon after a nap and get them up to the same point as my straights. I'm about to eat a breakfast of leftover burritos and a cupcake before I run out for an errand. I'll nap at about lunchtime to recover from last night the rest of the way.
12/16/15 Gillette New LC Rapira Super Stainless (3) Vulfix Super Badger (660) Pre de Provence Georgetown G12 Scuttle Pinaud Clubman Original First day with the Pre de Provence and the Rapira Super Stainless in the New LC. A small amount of warm water on the top of the soap to soften while soaking the brush. Afterwards, I poured the tiny amount that was left into my scuttle. I squeezed out the brush and loaded it for about 30 seconds (plenty of product). Built the lather in the scuttle adding a small amount of water from time to time as needed. After a bit I was rewarded with a ton of slick and creamy lather. 2 full passes: Pass 1 XTG. Pretty good reduction. Pass 2: ATG. Small amount of touch up using the lather on my face where I could feel stubble. At that point my face was feeling pretty smooth. Did a cool water rinse and then spent some time touching up my trouble spots and captured the baby. Once again, the Pinaud Clubman stung a little, but settled down quickly. The brush still had plenty for another two or three passes. A nice comfortable BBS from the Pre de Provence and the Rapira Super Stainless in the New LC. The PdP lathered well and was very slick and protective. No issues with this soap at all. Consistent and the lather was plentiful throughout the shave. Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!
12/16/2015 Razor – Gillette Slim (J3) set on 9 Blade – Feather (3) Brush – Romera Olivewood Synthetic Lather – Jabonman Citricos Post - Witch Hazel & Fine L’Orange It has been awhile since I used the Citricos soap. Since I enjoy it each time, I'll have to make sure it gets used more often. The soap practically lathers itself and the scent is nice as well. Going with a 3 pass shave this morning provided a near BBS shave. I did nick myself once due to operator error. Graded out closeness of A- and Irritation of B+ to A-. Finished off with a splash of Fine L'Orange. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
I've just taken advantage of being a full day ahead on my job located near a shopping centre and treated myself to a brush and two new shave creams. My brush is a men-u from Italy pure bristle and I have a body shop maca root shave cream and a men-u ultra concentrate cream all three products I know nothing about but the temptation to buy straight away rather than wait for delivery swayed my decision is anyone aware of these brands? I wouldn't say they were cheap
