I used creams almost exclusivly until November. I'm loving my time with soaps too. So many folks are praising Route 66, I'm going to need to get some. Just have to decide what scent to go for. I haven't smelled many of the scents most folks talk about, so its a bit of a challenge. I might just wait for samplers to become available.
I was wondering what was going on with the Feather in my DOC. I'd heard they can be rough on the first shave and better on the second, and that by the third they can get a bit dull. But I never heard that the blade could lose so much sharpness by the second shave. Maybe I just missed those comments.
At some point when I'm bored and if I'm convinced the zombie apocalypse isn't imminent, I may try to figure out what I think of these polarizing blades.
Hi Tom, I have heard some folks saying the same thing about the 1924..Some folks seem to find them fiddly to load..I haven't experienced this problem..I think its just that the 1924 opens & closes in the opposite direction to what most folks are used to ...Its quite a unique set up to the 1924..The blade just lays flat on the tray once its slid under those guides...There can be a tad of movement in the blade just before you clamp it down...The later Gem Micromatic Family have a similar blade tray but they have a little Nub to stop the blade from moving...When you have placed the blade in the tray just hold it in place with a finger before you clamp it down.. Billy..
Just hang in there, it will get better. Watch your angle, make it fairly shallow. A steep blade angle will sound good, but it will cause irritation and not cut very well.
I did a couple of months focus with a Semogue boar brush. I could use it, but didn't enjoy it as much as my Omega or my badgers. I got rid of it to focus on the brushes I do enjoy. I don't get to shave often enough to use gear I don't like, once I've used it for a while.

Ever have a shave that was more than the sum of its parts and just really enjoyable? This wasn't a perfect shave, but all the pieces just clicked. Razor was a recent acquisition. Cattaraugus model B52T 5/8 muted square tip. Celluloid scales to look like ivory, with chrome bolsters and an inlay of Chief Cattaraugus. I spent about 2 hours working on hones with this guy today. Enjoyed polishing and honing and wonder how long it's been since this razor was used. Picked my favorite soap, Jabonman Eufros from Spain. Scent is Dame de Noche a Jasmine scent that is floral without being sweet. Just awesome. It lathers like Arko but smells good and doesn't burn my skin. Did two passes, and got a DFS. Irritation was a B with two weepers. Closeness was was an A+. Razor was great, keenness was a B, and smoothness was an A. Aftershave was a great finish.
Steep is with the handle closer to your face. You could start with the handle parallel to the ground and the razor head against your face, then as you take a stroke, bring the handle toward your face until the blade just begins to cut your whiskers. At that point you'll have a very shallow angle. It's what some of us call "riding the cap."
Thanks for the info.. Then I'm totally doing the opposite of that. No wonder it seems like the blade is scraping.
Yeah, I polished the blade, scales, and inlays before I started honing it. This might be in my top three favorite razors now.
January 2016 Straight Feather Goose Focus January 9 For January I'm focusing on two razors, the W.B. Speed Rabbit TSR and the Mongoose, on loan from @Rufus T. Since the Goose uses AC blades I'm using the Feather Pros. Razor - Mongoose Blade - (6) Brush - Vie Long 12601 The Pony Soap - Tabac Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea, Proraso Saturday, the busiest day of the week normally so I needed a two pass as good as I could get it and be off. Decided to tempt fate and change to Proraso for the A/S today in spite of the Veg's obviously magical powers. The shave was great. Two passes with the Mongoose and I had a very near BBS. Really great result with no nicks or any other problems. The alum was a bit on the hot side but not bad. Can't complain. Threw on the Proraso after the Nivea and love that scent. Off to the battlefield and.......yeah, back to the Veg tomorrow. Worst day of sales this week for me. Again, not superstitious at all. Nope, not me. Tomorrow will be day 7 on the Feather Pro and I'll be switching to the Rabbit for Monday's shave. I'm enjoying this month so far. I'm not convinced yet I like the Mongoose as much as I thought I would but it's growing on me. Hope you all had a great Saturday.
Good start! Try to find a shallow angle that produces the sounds of velcro. Don't use pressure, don't worry about results yet.
