Monday Day: Day 5 of my second blade tryouts Prep: Hot Shower, Nivea Moisturizing Face Wash Brush: Simpsons 56 Best Badger Lather: Ginger's Garden Grapefruit Mint Razor: Merkur 41c 1908 OC Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (2) Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (4, 5, 6) Post: Cold water rinse, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Aqua Velva Ice Blue aftershave splash Cologne: Xeryus by Givenchy Day two with the GSB, with an extra day's stubble and loaded into the slightly milder shaving 41c. This jar of Grapefruit Mint is another one that's showing the bottom of the jar from regular use, but the lather came easily and was voluminous enough for 3 passes. The GSB again felt a lot like the Dorco-301 to me, but this time it bit me; I got a tiny weeper on the right side of the point of my chin - a spot that's normally not one to bleed for me. Between its relative price-point comparison with the 301, and the weeper, this might not be the blade for me, despite DFS+ results.
Relax me? I think all my morning shaves relax me. A nice way to start my day. Thanks...one of my recycled photos...
Weishi razor Astra blade (2) Synthetic brush Proraso green Witch hazel and AS balm Wtg and xtg - no irritating burns but sliced an ingrown hair and bled quite a bit. I was trying to be extra careful there and BAM sliced into the bump.. Shave went ok other than that but still hair.
I was making a word play on the Haslinger "Beruhigend" (Relaxing in German). Another example of my failure at humor. SWMBO reminds me of that frequently. However, I, too feel nice and relaxed; ready to take on the day after every shave.
Menthol Monday Razor: Gillette Super Speed No Date Code 1947 (Birth Year) Blade: Personna SS (3) Brush: Fendrihen Silver Tip Badger Black handle Soap: Route 66 Frozen Margarita A/S: Boost Iced Lime Great shave today with an excellent razor, blade, soap, and after shave. The more I use the Gillette 1947 Super Speed the better I like it. DFS today. Route 66 Frozen Margarita has a Juicy note of Mexican lime and sea salt, light hints of plum, berries and apple over mid notes of rose and jasmine; anchored with earthy, freshly cut hay, topped with a dash of cooling menthol. Long lasting, slick lather with a protective cushion and glide soothing post shave conditioning. Great stuff.
January 2016 Straight Feather Goose Focus January 11 For January I'm focusing on two razors, the W.B. Speed Rabbit TSR and the Mongoose, on loan from @Rufus T. Since the Goose uses AC blades I'm using the Feather Pros. Razor - W.B. Speed Rabbit Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - Proraso Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea, Proraso Monday morning. My weekend, though a short one this week. Got up, had breakfast, and hit the head shave for the week. No issues there. So off to the Rabbit for the daily shave. Pro 48 and Proraso green for Menthol Monday. I stropped the Rabbit and went to work on the first pass and it felt very good. Nice audible feedback as always and a nice first pass result. Second pass was a lot of XTG and ATG on the neck. That got me to a DFS. Not the best, not the worst. The razor feels good in my hand now and the struggle to find angles on the XTG is getting less. One nick in my usual problem zone, down by my goatee on the right jawline. For some reason that's been a recurring theme the past week with both razors. But, nothing alum couldn't handle. The alum was pretty quiet as well which was nice and I ended with Proraso A/S since I'm not working today. I'll be flying out of STL around 6:45 tonight for Chicago land, and will be stuck in the southern suburbs for the next three days. Not really looking forward to it but you gotta do what you gotta do. I may not be posting much between now and when I get home Thursday night due to only having my phone and the time issue. But, I will be taking the Mongoose along and at least we can say it went to Chicago to keep me covered on a business trip! Hopefully it will have some fun at the hotel while I'm busy in meetings. The rest of my travel kit is the BoS, Omega 10066 and Arko stick. Keeping it simple while on the road. Hope you have a great Monday and a better week!
Yesterdays shave was extremely comfortable with very good results. I was on one of my how inexpensively can I shave and still get good results kicks. The gear for yesterdays shave was -diane 2 piece all plastic razor (appears to be the same as the dorco razor) -wilkinson sword classic blade (1) -palmolive shave stick (no brush, I just lathered it with my hands. The lather wasn't much to look at but it was very slick). -florida water cologne followed by aveeno unscented balm. All in all a very pleasant shave.
Happy Monday! Today I'm gonna mix it up a bit..... TOBS Jermyn St shaving cream, Fendrihan Faux Horn badger brush, Merkur Progress w/Feather blade, TOBS Sandalwood aftershave gel.
Razor: Weishi 9306-C Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (2) Brush: Isana Men Pure Badger Pre-shave: Proraso Eucalyptus&Menthol Soap: Proraso Eucalyptus&Menthol AS: Proraso Eucalyptus&Menthol
Razor: Gillette 195 Fat Boy (f1) 1960 (5) (3) Brush: Rubberset 400 #3 WD 24/50 Silvertip (Jedi Lightsaber) Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue Cream: Route 66 Bourbon Jungle Blade: Feather (2) Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black balm, Old Spice original Shulton 1973 glass cologne Stopper #3 Put some hot water on the Route 66 Bourbon Jungle and let it sit for a minute. I had just received it the other day, after ordering it, with the Shave Den discount, thanks @Salty Belle Loaded some on to the Silvertip, which was very fast, as this soap is softer than most, which I like. The Silvertip whipped up some nice thick warm lather, very fast, in my favorite mug. Very nice scent, not overwhelming, but nice. My FB is still my favorite razor and as usual, made quick work in 2 passes WTG XTG. The lather was nice and slick, with good body, and with a little touchup on my neck ATG on 3, gave me a BBS shave! I had enough lather left over for another pass. For the money I see this soap as a great buy, as I have spent much more for less performance. Cleanup was also very nice as this soap does not leave a thick residue on everything as others do, nice! The WH felt good, nice and cool. Then some JB and when it dried, some Old Spice original Shulton 1973 cologne. Thanks also for the Route 66 recommendation from @Bobcat You nailed it! Y'all have a good one!
A pleasant SOTD this morning with the Wilkinson T70 Red Dot. I can understand why there are so few of these left - the razor feels almost disposable when shaving with it. Not a bad shave at all - just very light and almost fragile. I enjoyed it and came away with a good shave.
Nice new stuff for Tuesday morning: Stirling Pre-Shave Soap Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/Astra day 2 Razorock One-X SS Razorock One-X AS Just sniffing at the One-X soap and aftershave I'm already fascinated by the scent and after seeing a few You Tube videos it looks like the soap lathers like a real bomb, and from what I was told it has some menthol cooling to it. I'll find out to what extent in the morning when I use it. The aftershave is also supposed to be cooling and very skin-friendly. I love Rod's pre-shave soap so much!
