Day #8 of the seven day exploration: Cella

    Prep
    : hot shower
Music: Gioachino Rossini, Il Barbiere de Siviglia
    Brush: vintage DVH boar
    Soap: Cella
Razor: Gillette Slim (birth quarter) @9
    Blade: Schick platinum blade
    Shave: 3-pass
Post: DVH alum, hand strop blade & reload upside-down

    SoS 2016-01-13 a.jpg

    The soap:
It is a soft soap (exactly as soft as Cella! :p) and it has a nice almond scent.

    Ingredients:
    • Cocos nucifera oil
    • Tallow
    • Stearic acid
    • Aqua
    • Potassium hydroxide
    • Sodium hydroxide
    • Potassium carbonate
    • Prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond oil)
    • Parfum

    Lathering:
The brush loads quickly and forms lather quickly and is nicely soft and slick.

    SoS 2016-01-13 b.jpg

    Shave:
The slick lather has a nice cushioning effect. After the pass some slickness remains.

    After the shave:
    Very mild alum reaction.

    Overall verdict:
This is an excellent soap of good quality which lathers easily.

    Shave result:
    DFS++!

Have a great Hump Day, ya'll

  8. Wine Wednesday
I didn't need my sonic screwdriver to get a great shave today. Fireside yielded optimal lather over a thin layer of Shea Moisture creme to set up my stubble. Der Futur efficiently left my face clean and and smooth in three passes set on 5.5 with a Personna lab blue installed. I finished up with Krampert's Finest Acadian Spice Bay Rum and I'm feeling good.

  9. Good morning everybody.

Had a visitor today when I started setting up stuff for the picture of the day. Looks like she was thinking about getting rid of her facial hair ... ;)

Tried a new soap (well, new to me) that I received yesterday from a trade:

    - PannaCrema Namaste
    - Semogue OC badger
    - Merkur Futur
    - Sputnik (#4)
    - Tüff sensitiv/Pinaud Special Reserve (sample)

This italian artisan soap is a top performer, absolutely fantastic. Ridiculously easy to lather, the lather itself is super-slick and creamy, provided an incredible cushion for the razor. The scent ... well ... I guess you have to learn to love it. Top note is lemongrass, but mixed with a slightly musty scent of oakmoss. Pretty strange combination, so it's good that it is lightly scented compared to some US artisans like Stirling or Chiseled Face. And the scent evaporates quickly. Skin feels very good after the shave.

I started with the Futur set to 2.5 for the WTG pass. Very gentle, very pleasant. After that I confirmed yesterday's findings: Shaved the left side of my face ATG on 2,5, the right side on 5. The higher setting definitely felt more pleasant. Then I tried some touchups on setting 1: very smooth as well, but the razor actually didn't cut much  So I went back to 5 for some finishing touches unter my chin and at the jawline. I might have overshaved a little at my chin, but achieved a perfect BBS shave today.

Finished with a splash of Tüff Rasierwasser, waited a few minutes and applied a second layer of Pinaud Special Reserve (despite my wife's threat of violence should I ever use it :D ) But sometimes you just have to man up and do what you have to do, right? The result was similar to yesterday's experience with the Clubman. On my skin she seems to like it. Her comment: "Nice, but you have better stuff." Okay, I can agree with that.
  10. Great review I was curious about that soap.

  17. Hello fellow Shave Denizens, here's today's SOTD;

Early to mid 1930's Gillette Waterfall set New.
    Polsilver Super Iridium blade.
    Omega Travel Brush (Boar).
    Proraso Blue shaving cream.
    Avon Mesmerize Post Shave Conditioner.
    Avon Mesmerize cologne.

I tried my luck with this Gillette New today out of a need to develop better technique with my New razors. Actually the shave went pretty good. I've always felt sort of "meh" towards the Gillette New, but I may have changed my opinion of the New a little bit today. The razor really performed good. I'll have to use one more often.

    Have a great day!
  18. A magnificent shave which felt so icy-cold and refreshing thanks to the MITA soap. I had a mountain of lather in record time and two passes got me BBS. The Lucky Tiger a/s cream and Alt Innsbruck both gave me lots of extra chilling! :happy088: :happy088:
  19. TOBS Sandalwood (last minute line-up change) face lathered w/Omega 6151 Pure
    '48-50 Aristocrat w/Sputnik blade
Witch hazel followed by Nivea ASB finishing w/Floid Vigoroso (Not as much menthol as I expected but enough. A new favorite of mine!)

2 comfortable passes for a DFS!
