I recently acquired a few 1912 razors. One of which was a "squat head". Before then I only had 2 SEs. A Gem 1912 and an Ever-ready 1914. I've used the squat head a few times and it is more comfortable than my other 1912s. I did a quick comparison to my first 1912 and I could not see a difference. I was a little confused because when the lot of 1912s arrived, it was obviously different. I then compared my original 1912 to the other 1912s and I believe it is a squat head too. I've been told that squat head 1912s are less common but I didn't realize I started with one. I now have 2!!!

The two squat heads do give a different shave. The unstamped one is much smoother. One is stamped Gem(my first), and the other is not stamped but says Gem on the case. Both are stamped Brooklyn inside.

I had my second shave with the J1 today. I must have been rushed or fell down on my technique, though, as I ended up with an irritated patch on my cheek. Some AS balm took care of it, but clearly I need to be careful with such a powerful tool.

I have never heard of these particular 1912 s referred to as a "Squat Head" as you call it..The one thing that I do know it that the early Gem Models you have there are often referred to as Curved or Round head models...They were the first New Improved 1912 models that were released..The English one you have on the left is sometimes referred to as a Flat head Model...Bearing in mind this is Forum Speak..The USA changed their later models to a Flat Top but the English ones are far more Aggressive..

Thank you Billy. I didn't know what to call them. I've read curved and rounded and also squat. I've been trying to research these particular 1912s (all sorts of forums) and saw them referred to as squat.

Well...There are No rights & Wrongs here cause its just Forum speak..There are some models with a head that's at a shorter steeper angle as well that are sometimes referred to as a Squat head..Some of the SE variants can be very subtle and a Nightmare to pin down because the manufacture's didn't use these terminologies..I would hold on to these cause they are nicer shavers than the later ones for sure & getting rarer..There are a few folks around that know more about 1912 variants than me..

I just got this Auto Strop in a trade with @Red Rider . I cleaned it up and modified a GEM blade for it. I plan to give it a try in the near future.

Great story Mr. Bird! Injector razors are the bees knees ! I think I keep my DE razors just cuz but my injector razors are at the top of my favorite list!!

I'm interested in hearing what you think about the razor, I like mine, if you keep a shallow angle like any SE it does a fine job. Mine only takes the feather blade though.

That's why I love seeing all the photos on TSD of kids shaving with their dads.

I remember my dad shaving, he used Injectors mostly. DEs as well. Though I don't recall shaving with him, I do recall getting into his "den" one day after school. I was fascinated by this cool wheel on the razor where it clicked each time you went to a different number. I wonder if he ever realized I was spinning the wheel on his Adjustable?!

But when I left home his gift to me was an electric razor! He's 90 now. Recently I told him I had taken up this great way to shave. He said "best shaves I ever had!"

I saw this injector at a local antique mall today for $14. I'm not familiar with these razors. I'm thinking it was made in the 40s, but I'm not sure. Is it anything special?

My planned shave tomorrow, Valet razor, Feather blade and my JR brush #34. I'm looking forward to it! Totally TGIF!

Buy it! Just the overall condition with paper says yes looks like a G type. $14 oh yeah great deal!

That's a Schick Type G 1 ..That one would probably have been made around 1950/52...It has the Navy handle similar to the Route 66 which are somewhat rarer..Its still in its box & original instruction's & looking in great condition... At 14 bucks that's a great buy..Take it & Run..

Causes a bit of confusion this one...The Type G 4 was the Navy Blue Handled Route 66 model..The handle is Darker blue & usually has a Crinkled Finish..The one getting displayed here is a Type G 1 with a slightly lighter coloured handle..There was also Black handle & Butterscotch Type G 1s as well..

Thanks guys! I appreciate the helpful information! A friend spotted an "old razor in the box" at the local antique mall and told me about it. I stopped by to take a look at it today, hoping to find a vintage Gillette. I'll let him know what you said and give him the first shot at it. Thanks again!

I decided I will be shaving with the Valet tomorrow. I got it cleaned up and got a new blade in it. This will be my first experience with an Auto Strop.

Opened up a NOS Personna Injector II blade today and tried it in the M2.
Harder to inject than single edge blades. Have to confirm where these where made. Excellent feel making the M2 that more effecient without aggression.
