As @Gabe said, modern GEM blades work fine. I add a half spine shim to it. Doing this replicates the angle from the thicker spine that the blades at that time had. Billy has posted how to create shims and the instructions can be found pretty easily if you Google - the fergiebilly shim. Good stuff.
I got really lucky on that one. It is minty and was in way better condition than I expected. So many of these have worn plating on the edges where it says, "Lift Here." This one must have gotten tucked away and hardly used.
I can`t remember when I`ve gotten as close a shave as this morning. No pics, as I don`t have a camera. Used shaving lather from a can from Walmart(.98 cents) some shave secret oil and my all time favorite J1. Shaved my bald "spot" with an old Norelco electric (left over from my real shaky days).Believe me, this is a real BBS. That J1 just flew over my face like I had never grown a whisker in my life. Bill
It is trickier to load. If I angle the edge of the blade in behind the stops first I can then line up the notches and lower the blade into place. Doing that and having the shim in the correct position underneath takes a little concentration and focus on my part.
Personna Executive Injector.. Three Shaving Pass Routine.. Hot Water prep & massage with Coconut Oil Personna Executive Injector Dutch made Schick Platinum Injector Blade x 5 Hans Baier Silver Tip Badger Brush Monsavon Bol Tallow Soap (France) Hattric Aftershave Splash (From Germany) I had one of those Money Button Dolphin Smooth shaves today with my Brit made Personna Executive..The angle is very subtle on this Injector..This thing it the epitome of totally flat against the face.. Once you find the angle you will never forget it...This injector sits somewhere between the Schick Type D & F for me...Its way up there in terms of comfort...Far more comfortable than later model Schick injectors for sure...Boy this Injector is Smooth & Smooth..I used my New Hans Baier Silver tip today for the first time & Monsavon Bol tallow soap from France...This is a first class soap...Since I converted to all things tallow I have been getting the shaves of my life...These Personna & PAL Injectors made by the American Safety Razor Company are some of the best shavers on the planet...Good karma.. Billy..
Thanks, some are not used much but I'm making a shim and will be rotating through them all in the coming weeks. As long as I follow the instructions and keep the cap " flat on my face " the razors are a pleasure to use. And you don't need to spend a lot of money to get a few. I'm not sure but I think I've got around $100-$120 in the lot.
Black & Butterscotch handle G Type 1.. I just stuck these up out of interest..These are Both Type G 1 s ..A Black handled one & also a Butterscotch one..You can see both of these have the Seamed Handle..You seem to get a run of these on the Flea Market from time to time then they disappear for months on end..These are not mine... Billy..
I agree....The ER1914 is one of my very favorites and yours is a drop dead good looking example....What a fun and efficent shaver... They are a little tricky to load...but after that they are a "hoot" to shave with....So much feedback...you can hear and feel every whisker getting snapped....ha,ha....I love it...I did do a month focus to zero in on it..but now it feels very intuitive to me...I think it's one of those perfect designs that is timeless....
You have one of the early models with the tiny blade stops, which do indeed make it tricky to load. If you look closely at Karl's 1914 you will notice that his blade stops are much larger. Contrary to the popular opinion, I find the 1914 to actually be slightly more aggressive than the 1924, at least the round tooth version. But not in a bad way. --Bob
Today, finally, I had my first shave with my new Eversharp-Schick G1 razor. Wow, what a shave. The angle was super easy to find, and I was able to shave with confidence resulting with a great shave: no nicks, cuts, or abrasions. What a great little shaver!
@Jim99 is gifting me a couple of Auto Strop razors, so I went ahead and ordered me 10 Feather SE carbon steel blades. I will be posting pictures and reviews after they arrive. I am looking forward to getting them. Thanks, Jim.
I broke out my Clogpruf today for a great BBS shave. I used a fresh Treet blade, seemed very sharp and smooth. Everyone have a great day!
