SOTD 1/20/16 Prep: Hot Shower/ Nivea Sensitive Face Wash Pre-Shave: PAA Ice Pre Shave Soap Soap: Soap Commander Vision Brush: Semogue OC Boar Razor/ Blade: Vintage Gillete (not sure actually)/ Elios Blade (1) Astringent: Thayers Witch Hazel Post-Shave: Soap Commander Vision Balm Aftershave Splash: Aqua Velva I only have a handful of my shaving gear with me so far. The rest I shipped here and should be receiving in a few days. Yesterday was a little warmer (30s), so I decided to go with something slightly cooling. Soap Commander Vision has mint in it so it is cooling, but no face freezing. I actually enjoy it because it is refreshing, but can still be used in the Winter. My Krampert's Finest Frostbite on the other hand is face freezing. It worked very well and smelled good. Semogue OC Boar is breaking in nicely. Vintage Gillette was very mild, like a superspeed. Personally, I hate Elios blades. They are sharp, but not smooth and way overpriced in my mind. Soap Commander Vision balm has all the great qualities of SC regular balm, with a light minty scent. I can see it going with pretty much anything. Overall it was a good shave. Not the closest, but still very good.
SOTD Thur, 4th day on Ted Pella blade. Did a little different this morn. With canned lather, shave oil, and normal prep, I started from apple with AGT up to bottom of ear, cross cheek to ear. same thing on other side(1st pass). 2nd pass was a thin layer of lather and using Lady J1, she did her magic again, ending in a near BBS. Tomorrow should be the last shave on this blade, but only time will tell. I could not be pleased more! The cost per shave is going down with each shave. Hope everybody realizes that I`m basically looking at the performance of the blades. Soaps, oil and other prep items are of secondary concern, individual choice is of course a factor to consider. Personally , I like cheap, but I will return to my regular routine after this test. Five shaves for a quarter ain`t bad, not counting the prep items. It`s sure going to be nice to pamper myself again and really enjoy my new hobby. Please everyone, enjoy your daily shave as much as possible, Bill BTW... The Blade still feels smooth.
Razor: Gillette Black Handle Flare Tip (P1) 1970 Blade: Feather Hi Stainless (1) Brush: Ever-Ready 100T 1950's Boar Soap: Route 66 Bourbon Jungle A:S Fine Platinum Excellent 3 pass shave today. This is not a very aggressive razor, but performs very well when the right angles are used.
Thanks , appreciate the kind words. Enjoy every minute of your daily ritual at the looking glass (ha ha). Bill
