As @mikewood said its much better not to get burn than to try and heal it after the shave. I found that an irritation free shave was MUCH better than a BBS, so I was always happy with a DFS as long as it was with zero irritation. Do you ever use any kind of preshave? I use Corn Huskers Lotion as a preshave and it works wonderfully for me. You could be using too much pressure also.
Myrsol Emulsion works wonders as well. The bottle might seem expensive at first, but it comes in a heavy glass bottle and you only need a pea sized amount for your whole face. I've had some very rough shaves, but this stuff soothed my skin and made it feel better within a half an hour.
I usually use the same pre & post shave combination that gives me comfort with some really aggressive SEs....After my hot water prep I use coconut oil to massage my face & apply my soap/cream on top of it....I always add Moroccan Argan Oil to my cream/soap.....Moroccan Argan Oils is thinner than the coconut oil and it seems to slip over the top of it whilst providing an excellent glide....I always use Organic Natural Products and Logonna Mann aftershave balm..... Proraso White Aftershave balm is good for slight razorburn. When i was a newbie and carved up my face with a feather blade I ended up throwing calamine lotion on my face.
Aye, Calamine Lotion is great, I think its easy to get sucked into Cooperate Shaving Products and neglect the good Auld stuff that been proven and tested for decades..
That is so true. I burned my hand at the bottom of my Weber BBQ the other day. Tried to keep it cool for about one hour, to no avail. I smeared on some of my Shea butter lotion bar and almost instantly the burning sensation stopped. It was so good. It gives incredible face care as well after a shave.
Gillette Rubie Platinum Plus. I've tried lots of blades and like it best. But it's not the blade, it's me swiping at the one area constantly to get a BBS shave, I believe I mentioned that somewhere else in the thread.
For skin irritation and minor sun burn, I use kukui nut oil, an age old Hawaiian remedy. It's also a good psi.
Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I have used Proraso's white "pre barba" cream with oat and green tea as post shave, anti burn treatment, with good results. The (relatively little amount of) menthol also gives somewhat of a cooling sensation.
Aye, although razor/blade combos are an important factor I think if we were all honest about it most of the time its ourselves that bring on razor burn by over doing things in one way or another.... Billy.....
Dr. Jon's "Classic" shaving tonic. Love that stuff, especially for a rough shave. Sometimes I'll follow that with a Nivea sensitive skin balm. My go to for a bad shave. Soothing
