SOTD 1/26 Razor: Merkur 34C/ Astra SP(2) Brush: Black Satin Tip The Purest Soap: Blades Grimm Smolder PS: CWR/ Nivea PSB left a little too much water in the brush this time, got a better load but the lather started out very sudsy and took a bit more work to form it into a nice thick slick lather. After that point though it was off to the races and the Astra again provided a smooth effortless irritation free shave. 3 passes WTG, XTG, XTG left me with a nice smooth DFS. At this point all remnants of irritation from cartridge shaving seem to be gone, Man this is great shaving.

January 26, 2016 Razor- Standard 160 Goodwill Blade- GSB (5) Brush- VdH Boar Soap- VdH Deluxe I realized that I hadn't used this razor for a while and with no good reason. The 160 is a New LC-based razor that never fails to satisfy. I think it may be time to move on to a new blade, but overall a good CCS. For some reason, though, I found myself more focused on the razor today. I'd never noticed before, but this is actually a somewhat heavy (or at least "solid") razor. No wonder Gillette moved to the thinner baseplate for the Tech and beyond; the savings in brass alone must have reduced the Bill Of Materials for a razor significantly. I even started to wonder if the creation of the Safety Bar was less about safety and more about issues with designing a reliable OC for the thinner baseplate. The things that pass through the mind while shaving... JR

First shave today with the Feather AS D2 and a Feather blade. This is the quietest razor I have used almost like it's not cutting. It is effective though after 2 passes l had a near BBS shave. Have a great day everyone!
January 25 Razor: Gillette 1958 Executive adjustable Blade: MEM Chinese knockoff then GSB Brush: Stirling Kong Soap: Stirling MITA Post: Cold water rinse, Witch Hazel, Nivea Balm Last night I decided to try a random blade out of China. This blade made the derby seem like a feather. Heck, this blade made a well worn shovel seem super sharp. I honestly am not sure it could slice through air, much less my beard. Finished the shave with the GSB. Had to use the Nivea Balm to try and cool the fire on my face from the blade yanking hairs instead of slicing them.
lol that Cryogen is no joke. Insane menthol level. I like menthol but it was way too much for me personally. Great performing soap though.
