Hello TSD
Today I focused more on a new soap than on my razor. I received a sample of a new greek artisan soap yesterday: Faena Aeolica

It smells really nice - if you like the scent of herbs

It reminds me of a mixture of Ouzo and Myrsol Agua Balsamica. Anise, Thyme, Fennel and some more herbs I cannot identify actually. Very pleasant and light scent, not overwhelming. The soap itself is pretty soft, but a bit harder than my RazoRock for example.
First impression: Once the soap is lathered, it is very slick and offers great protection. I don't actually rinse my face between passes, I rather re-moisten it and just spread the leftover lather over my face and neck with my wet hands. I found that some soaps in this case lose their slickness, the Faena does not. After the shave it left my skin soft and well moisturized ... just one splash of Tüff sensitiv Aftershave and everything was fine. No irritation at all from today's shave.
BUT
Yes, of course there is a but. Would be pretty boring if everything was nice and shiny, wouldn't it? This soap is actually pretty demanding in terms of water management. Too much water and the lather just seems to evaporate. My first lathering attempt failed miserably because I used a very wet boar brush ... something that works with roughly 90 percent of my soaps. The Faena worked best this morning with a dry Synthetic brush (my Mühle Silvertip Fibre). I put some drops of water onto the soap, loaded the brush, painted some lather on my wet face and carefully added a bit more water as I continued face lathering. This time I got it right and my lather was thick and creamy.
The shave itself was really enjoyable: Merkur Progress on 4 with a Gillette Silver Blue blade, same as yesterday. Two passes, nice and smooth, BBS except for one small spot on my neck.

And now, a few hours after the shave, my face feels as if I had used an after shave balm or some kind of face cream. Very nice.
