SOTD 1/28 Merkur 34C / Astra SP (3) Satin Tip The Purest Blades Grim Smolder Finally dialed in the later production with the Satin Tip, more pressure while loading was the key. Thanks for the tip @PLAla I had my first ATG pass today and got a very smooth shave, though it did cause a little irritation on my neck. I don't think that ATG passes with be an every shave sorta thing as I can get nearly as smooth of a shave with XTG and a cleanup pass without any irritation. I think I might get one more shave out of the Astra blade as I think it started to tug just a tiny bit on the first pass
Glad that tip worked! We're using the same brush and the same blade at the moment. I just finished the fifth shave on the Astra. It still feels pretty smooth for me. That's the longest I've gone on a blade. The Satin Tip brush has really grown on me once I experimented with it some. I can get some fantastic face lathers!
I must say the pics on the SOTD threads are getting better and better. This isn't a shaving forum, it's an art gallery! Great stuff all of you, keep 'em coming.
Wonderful photo Roby. I keep seeing that bottle of 1881 and based on info you provided me couple weeks ago regarding the notes and I really like the look of that bottle, going to break down and pickup a bottle. Looks like a unique Fougere to have in the shave den.
Razor: Bullgoose sr108 with GSB (3) Lather: TOBS Grapefruit Brush: JR 13 by @Jayaruh AS: Old Spice I was amazed at how quickly this TOBS cream face lathered. Started to build up with literally just 3-5 circular motions. Lather was slick and gorgeous. The Grapefruit was just a delightful cherry on top of this great performing cream. Citrus always feels great on my skin. Had a great 3 pass (WTG, XTG↔) shave with not a single once of irritation. The only place my Alum burned was over a pimple to the right of my lip crease. If the rest of my day is half as great as this shave was then I'm in for a smooth sailing and awesome day. Great shaves to you all!
Fantastic! Guy I think you'll really enjoy it. Very luxurious scent and long lasting so no need to respray. The bottle is very beautiful and very heavy, they do not cut corners with this cologne. Let me know how you like it and enjoy my friend. Would be cool to see it in some SOTD'S!
Reminds me of conversation I had with a guy at work oh some 25 years ago as a young man. At the time there was a funny saying "Real men don't eat quiche". He was eating quiche so I echoed the current tag line, whereby he responded with "Real men don't tell other men what to eat" touche I thought. Lady Gillette are after all a Gillette Super Speed with an extra long textured handle. I've read that they were supposed to be a milder razor but I find the early two I have when paired with a sharper blade to equal anything my Red Tip delivers requiring no more passes or spot buffing. The one shown in my recent SOTD has a H4 date code 1962.
I like it a lot. It's my first brush with badger hair so I'm still getting used to it. It's definitely very soft, but trying to hone in my technique with it. Doesn't have the backbone that my boar or synthetic brushes have but it still performs great
Mine is also soft, I'm a face latherer so I like that. Mine doesn't have a whole lot of backbone which I have remedied by not drowning it too much in water and or shaking it off some. Very happy over all.
