January 31, 2016 Shave Den Sunday February Focus begins a day early with my Schick Type D - The first Schick Injector Razor circa 1935. Shave 1 Hot Shower Razor: Schick Type D Blade: Schick (China) (1) Soap: TSD Unscented Brush: Rubberset 400-4 TSD Witch Hazel TSD Aftershave Milk TSD Acqua Di Gio 3-day growth = 3-pass shave. First shave with the D - a beautiful razor and a great shave. First pass (WTG) seemed very efficient, so second pass went right to ATG and a very comfortable shave. First impression - this razor was extremely easy to maneuver and settle in on the shave angle. Efficient, close and casual - casual because I immediately got the angle and it appeared to flow across the face with minimal to no pressure and even provided a good ATG on upper chin and corners of my mouth where I hardly ever do ATG. I think I’m going to enjoy this month! Cheers! RT
My February 30 Day Focus Help celebrate TSD's Anniversary Use new SE and DE razors including but not limited to: The One Blade AlumiGoose King Cobra Blackland Blackbird Seygus Use both SE and DE razor blades Post SOTD photographs and later on, comments for each shave Have fun and enjoy the shenanigans and cookies while in the purrr-suit of purrr-fection.
With a DE I only used one hand. When I started with straights I tried using just one hand but it was impossible for some parts to get the right angle with the blade. So I switched to both hands for SR shaving and can't imagine going back. While it took some time train my off hand I highly recommend using both hands for straight shaving.
I don't know if I'm entering correctly or if I'm doing it right at all. Please set me straight in case it's all wrong. But this is me participating with my small focus-group: Omega 20106 boar brush. MEM Olive shaving cream. Rapira Swedish Supersteel blade. I'm entering the Omega because it's vastly bigger than I'm used to. I want to overcome that. I'm entering MEM because, contrary to popular opinion, I'm not all that amazed by it. I'm hoping to find common enjoyment of this cream. I'm entering Rapira Swedish Supersteel because I want to run some focused test on longevity.
February rock fight contestants: Shapton 16k (12k not shown) and in her corner: Robert Williams Purist, Wade & Butcher, Dovo Bismarck 2, Hart Steel 6/8, PRC Western kamisori and Hart Steel 7/8 J Nat and in her corner: Rasurpur Western grind kamisori, Dovo Master's and Jerry Stark 5/8 I also have a Feon 172 that was finished on Goyumoku 20k that will make some appearances too.
I shaved the entire month of March 2015 using only my left (non-dominant) hand. It made me a better shaver!
Thanks Kerry! Your focus, well, maybe a bit "boar"-ing! All kidding aside, there's nothing like a well worn boar brush.
Thanks! Quick question : am I locked to the chosen razor in a 30-focus exercise? I'm a bit confused on the topic.
I'm shifting from a 30 day "focus" to a 30 day "rule" approach. The only thing that will change will be the soap when it runs out during mid-month. And in honor of Groundhog Day, I will use brushes made from the hair of another large rodent - badger.
No. If you stick to one razor, it would be the rigorous 30 Day Rule. If you use more than one razor in February, you'd be doing a blade focus. Either exercise fits in perfectly here!
Thanks! Yes, exactly. my idea is to start training my off- hand a bit, before I get a SE. Actually I tried today, while I need some work there, I'm not too bad, either. I can see that! I figure as long as I'm teaching myself what to do, I may as well teach both hands.
You set what your focus is. I like to pick a few areas, whether it be hardware, software, or a particular method I want to work on.
Chris, I've been wanting to use these two brushes for a long time, the 830 is a lot further than the 610. This is the perfect opportunity for me! I really need to get both of them going. I'm a synthetic guy so this will be the ultimate challenge.
