Yay - I'm first Just received these two beauties I bought from @Red Rider - a Red Tip Super Speed and a 1930ies Canadian Fat Handle Tech with triangular base plate holes. Rob added some nice vintage blades: And this one arrived from China - a Rimei razor I bought for 1,79 incl. shipping:
Well - I like the Techs, especially in combination with Feather blades. And since these early Techs are supposed to be a bit more aggressive than their successors I am really looking forward to my first shave with this one. Though it surprised me how lightweight the handle actually is. From the looks I anticipated it would be about as heavy as a bulldog handle And yes, love this Red Tip
Gillette Tech production spanned decades and varied dramatically. What Tech have you tried or better yet have you tried and English or Canadian thicker cap variant preferably pre or just post war fat handle ? They are more efficient without ever being aggressive and provide a proper BBS shave with little effort from my experience.
I've tried 3 or 4 different ones, sometimes you just have to realize that something isn't for you. I still have one a Gillette Ball End Tech 1966 L2. Just because it's my wife's birth year and it's in fantastic condition.
Great, now I have to think about a Canadian Techs after getting my first Rocket while avoiding eBay this year. Grumble. I may fail at No Buy eBay 2016, but not in the first two months....
My RR Jaws just arrived! It's super hefty and weighty. The knurling is very grippy and handle length is spot on. Will shave with it tomorrow and post on the SOTD.
The mailman was good today; From Top Left: Slant Stroke Bakelite, Goodwill, Grand Shave King, Gem Bullet Tip, Canada Old Type, Schick Adjustable, Bakelite Simplex Schick Canada E
First Haul of Feb: Replacing some of the Fine Aftershaves that got broken. They were sold out of Platinum, so got Clean Vetiver instead. The VieLong is a horse/ badger mixed brush which I will be using tonight. I am not a fan of the PAA guy, but I thought I would get his soaps to test out and see how they compare. Got all of this from the Q-Bros shaving store in Chicago (aka Merz Apothecary). Great shaving store with tons of inventory. Here is a picture of the razors alone:
Fantastic! The old version is my youngest sons favorite razor, maybe I'll need to get him this one. I look forward to you for your SOTD.
Thanks, very excited to try it out tomorrow Kerry! Will pair it with Route 66 Lumberjack, it's my favorite.
