A nice surprise showed up in my mailbox yesterday. A wrapped, and encased in a specially made blade box, NOS Rolls Razor blade. Thank you, @Hodge.

This gave me the perfect opportunity to finally shave with the Rolls Razor I bought at the end of last year. I first honed and stropped it for 50 laps on both the stone and the strop. Having done that, it was time to take the plunge and put that steel cutting edge to my face. I had a little over 2 days of growth to offer the Rolls and it helped me zero in on technique. I suspect the blade could still be honed to be a bit sharper as it started a bit tuggy. BUT, with a little experimentation I quickly found that reducing the angle reduced the tugging greatly. With a much flatter - nearly flat - angle, the blade moved more smoothly but I still needed to keep the strokes short. It was a bit hard to work my chin so I didn't push it. The area under my nose required some fancy maneuvering. The first pass ended with no cuts - a tiny weeper was trying to form but never really opened. I considered that a success. The reduction was OK but I wasn't feeling great about it.

With the second pass I continued to keep a shallow angle and found that, with the reduction in stubble, the tugginess was reduced even further and I could easily take longer strokes. Clearly a smoother result than the first pass and really good reduction... and my face was still intact - no bleeding. Success number 2.

The final pass went without incident. It was a bit tough to work ATG on my chin and I needed to use wet touch-ups in areas multiple times to really get to that smooth, smooth finish. But I ended up with a mostly BBS shave - just a few small areas where I could have chased it a bit more - but a really nice shave overall. Face still intact and whiskers replaced with smooth goodness. Success number 3.

Now I just have to find that post of @spidey9 about lapping film and honing blades. I can see that this razor and others using the hollow ground blades are in my future. Then again, the Bunny may come along and everything else will just gather dust.

BTW, the blades are called "wedge blades," despite the fact that they are most definitely hollow ground. The meaning of "wedge" changes contextually, depending on whether we are talking about straight razors or safety razors. "Spine" is the same way. On a straight razor it is simply the back side of the blade, while with safety razors it refers to the strip of metal wrapped around the non-shaving side of the blade.

My authority for this is Robert K. Waits, who refers to the blades as "wedge blades" throughout A Safety Razor Compendium.

Day two with the Type A was a good one, even better than yesterday. I still think the shaves get better with a new blade (Chick) after the initial use.

Hey that type A is no slouch buddy! Looks like a fine shave in the works!

It looks from @Billyfergie 's pics, that the angle of your Ghost Bunny V2 has a shaving angle very similar to my Repeater....On cheek, handle at a close to 90 degree or perpendicular angle....

Guys, you've probably heard this already and far be it for me, the injector neophyte, to give advice....but

With my first injector shave, (a Schick Golden 500) a wizened shaver advised:

1 - going from heavier DEs to a much lighter injector - you will be tempted to add pressure - don't.

2 - angle. Put the face of the razor flat on your face. Start your stroke and tip the handle ever so slight downward. You will hear what some describe as a 'velcro' sound. I tend to not go too far from flat against my face.

I hope this helps. Just relax that grip and don't over think it.

February Focus with my Schick Type D - The first Schick Injector Razor circa 1935

On the road since Monday, so shaving with my travel kit including my Schick C1. Back home to focus on the Type D tomorrow.

Razor: Schick Type C1
Blade: NOS Personna 74* (USA) (1&2)
Soap: Arko (homemade stick)
Brush: Rubberset Travel (Vintage) Stainless with replacement synthetic knot installed by TSD Brushmeister @clint64




Using a new NOS Personna 74 blade to assess its reputation for being a loooooong lasting blade. With 6-7 travel shaves per month with this razor / blade combo, it'll take a few months to test its reputation for providing over 20 shaves per blade.

Also eager to try out the new brush knot since Clint replaced it for me.

My report for these last two shaves are similar one-pass ATG shaves due to each of the previous close shaves I get each day. Either my whiskers aren't regenerating as quickly anymore or perhaps I'm actually learning technique?

As reviewed last month, this blade is very sharp, there's no rushing the shave with this one. It also seems to demand a well hydrated and lubricated face. All this led to a rash of weepers / nicks around my chin on my first shave, but I remembered on the second shave and had a disaster-free smooth shave.

I'm also concerned with the brush / soap combination. Arko needs copious amounts of water to keep from drying, this knot does not hold water as well as other synthetics, but I love the brush size so much - when collapsed it takes up almost no room in my kit. I adjusted the application of Arko (I only need enough for one pass right) and the combination worked much better.

Todays shave was with one of my most aggressive razor's; The Eversharp Schick Canadian E with the ivory handle. My Schick razors rate on the aggressiveness scale as follows.
Most aggressive to least aggressive;

I can get bit with this razor very easily, so no pressure is needed. It is almost counter intuitive, that with such a light razor that you use a very light touch, but man is it efficient. Today was BBS and AGAIG with no blood. It helped that I used one of the best soaps in my den, Williams Mug, slick and cushiony, the razors just glides over the face.

Whenever I use a Personna Floating Head razor loaded with Twin blades it just amazes me how good a razor this is....
