That's what I love about this site and why I joined up in the first place. With your direction I have found out that the 1954 TV Special was represented by the Z-3 and Z-4 Super Speeds. The one she found was the Z-4 (ran home to verify ) and does indeed belong with the case. The 1958 flair tip is a D-3, instead of a D-4 as I mentioned earlier, but still is the 1958 TV Special. The funny thing is that all the razors other than the 1958 are 4th quarter razors. I'll bet they were all Christmas presents! Thanks a ton, once again, Steve!
Okay, went with the leader first and used the 1958 TV Special SS. I used my usual superlather of VDH soap and Bay Rum TSD cream. It was a smooth clean shave with no problems. All in all not bad at all. Next day I went with the 1954 TV Special (40's style Super Speed). Excellent shave with the same lather! To be honest, even better than my 1951 40's style SS ... and it's a great piece! Of all the razors tried to date in "The Haul", this one finished second behind the fatboy and slightly ahead of the adjustible slim. I have yet to try the Knack and the black handle SS. Unless someone can send me a spare GEM blade I can't really give that puppy a go. Besides, I have that thing is so clean and shiny it'll be on eBay before the weekend is over. (Blame the wife, she found them.)
Just finished up a session with the Knack ... the razor that is. Used the exact same prep and lather. I used WTG & XTG just as with the others. When I shifted into ATG mode I was a little more aggresive since I could feel she'd handle it. No cuts or scrapes. The Knack appears to be a very shaver friendly shaver that may not give you quite the same BBS type quality as the earlier classics, but it is much more forgiving. I also loved the handle! I found myself using the entire length giving me more maneuverability ... more touch. While the end result wasn't as close the shave was just as good as the best of the others.
