Sunday: Day 20 of my second round of blade testing Prep: Hot Shower, Nivea Moisturizing Face Wash Brush: Omega #11575 Boar Lather: Ginger's Garden Jasmine Amber soap Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Dorco Prime (2) Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (4, 5, 6) Post: Cold water rinse, Bloc Osma alum, Thayer's Witch Hazel pad, Myrsol Metilsol aftershave splash Cologne: Le 3e Homme de Caron by Caron I've been battling stomach issues this week, so - while I managed a shave the other day - this is the first post since Monday; apologies for not initially recording my impressions of Day 1 with the Dorco Prime. Whipped up quite serviceable lather with the GG and the 11575, though I could probably have stood to use a tad more water. The Prime is as smooth and comfortable on my face as the Dorco-301 is, with better audio feedback. After 3 passes and no ATG pass, I'd call my face BBS with my neck at DFS+, which is about as good as I can get sans ATG. I didn't need the extra alum from the Metilsol, but I hadn't reached for it in nearly a month, so it got used today. The only problem I have with the Dorco Prime is that its performance is not enough of an improvement over the 301 to justify the increase in cost to me.
SOTD February 7, 2016 Proraso pre shave Gillette Heavy Tech/ Gillette 7 o'clock Yellow Semogue/Proraso WH / Proraso ASB Great shave this morning with one of my favourite combinations.
This OSP Bay Rum soap is unbelievable - it's so easy to lather, it smells awesome, and its skincare is excellent. I got a great BBS shave this morning, and the Krampert's Bay Rum aftershave had me in scent heaven with a very comfortable post-shave feeling. A special shout-out to Rod for his wonderful pre-shave soap which does such a good job of cleaning and preparing the skin for a shave!
SOTD Super Bowl Sunday February 7, 2016 Prep: Hot Shower. Noxzema Razor: iKon Shavecraft Short Comb w/Bulldog handle Blade: Personna Lab Blue Lather: Route 66-Retro Spice Brush: Semogue 610 Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Chiseled Face Trade Winds 73 and plenty of sunshine at kickoff! I'll be putting a 16 lb turkey in the oven shortly. Great shave. Retro Spice, easy to lather, slick, protective, beautiful scent and fantastic post shave skincare. I'm digging the iKon Short Comb! The Semogue 610 is really starting to splay nicely. Happy Happy. CF Trade Winds, it's a cucumber, mint old spice scent. Really nice. Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE!
Super Sunday Shave I went with a favorite combination today - Lavanille and Lavanille, and it did not disappoint. I put three pumps of Van Yulay PSO in my wet hands and massaged it into my warm wet face for a few seconds. Then I let it sit there while I brushed my teeth, to give it time to work. My Brothers Bristles Bimetal Brush easily coaxed Lavanille into providing thick yogurty lather. Der Futur went about its business with cool efficiency, smoothly reducing my stubble over three passes on setting five. I did get one weeper from carelessness, but it closed quickly during the cold water rinse. Lavanille Tonique finished this shave up right. This one has some staying power and I can enjoy the scent while not projecting it to a whole room.
SUNDAY Early morning shave today; another frameback razor. My initial shave with this newly-acquired Thiers-Issard 69 (honed yesterday). Route 66 'Cavendish' soap and matching aftershave balm. Three-pass very smooth shave! Over the past four days, its been interesting comparing the feel of four different vintage frame back razors. Have a blessed Sunday, all!
