2/07/16 - Super Bowl Sunday Shave!! Sapone Di Paolo Bosco Custom Badger The Imperial Razor Speick Aftershave Really like this soap. Here's my thoughts and today's shave: For me, it's hard to beat Old German Steal. This razor is so smooth and holds such a sweet edge!
Rolls Razor.. Two Pass Shaving Routine... Hot Water prep & massage with Coconut Oil Rolls Razor Wedge Hollow Ground Blade Hans Baier Silver Tip Badger French Monsovan Bol Tallow soap Thayers Original Witch Hazel I had a lovely Two Pass Shave today with my Rolls Razor..The blade was very sharp indeed..I got a hold of some Red Honing Paste & Honed the blade within the Rolls System for 40 laps & another 40 Stropping laps a side..I finished the blade off on a leather strop outwith the Rolls System as you can see on the 2nd photo above..The Rolls wedge blade wont fit a standard stropping handle so I just use some tape to get a good handle on it..The blade is very sharp indeed..I didn't use the safety bar whilst shaving...The safety bar is to stop the blade getting damaged whilst its flipping over whilst honing & stropping within the Rolls System..It doesn't serve any other purpose really except to further protect the blade when you sit the razor down of course.. I have got to say this in all earnest ..The Rolls Razor is the next best thing to the CV Heljestrand without a doubt..I have used just about every Lather Catcher & French Hoe with a Hollow Ground Blade & they don't look near the Rolls with the exception of the CV Heljestrand of course..There is a lot of loose talk in Forums about shaving with a straight edge blade on a stick..I am guilty of this myself..As you can see in the photo above the Rolls is probably the only one that is truly a straight edge blade on a stick.. The Rolls is just so easy to use to those have ever used a traditional straight razor..Its the exact same shaving angle and principle..The most dangerous part is handling these Hollow Ground Blades or having an accident them rather than cutting yourself whilst shaving...These blades are lethal & would make a wonderful weapon for self defence..No bones about that..One WTG Pass & One ATG Pass & ended up with a mixed BBS & DFS Result..I am finding it difficult now to shave with any Gem blade SE these days..I still love my Injectors of course ..Bit of a pardox I know but that's just the natural laws of Yin & Yang in my Nature.. Billy..
I shaved with the MM Bullet Tip today for the first time. I loaded a dept. store carbon steel blade and remembered to let the seeing eye do the work. With the head flat on my face htis razor is a wonderful tool. I do need to spend more time with my Gem Micro Matics, as I have some trouble remembering to keep the head flat against the face on the ATG & XTG passes. The Chiseled Face Sherlock soap is very slick and lathered well with the Vie-Long Badger and Horsehair brush. There was some irritation because of this but overall a shave AGAIG.
I got this from the UK as I live here...The ones in the USA can be in a ruff state in general..Its not worth cutting corners with these..You need to get one in the best possible condition.. Billy..
Yeah, that's why I haven't gotten one. I've heard they are a bugger if their not in great shape. Still a looking. I've seen a few go for over $100. Is the price going up on them?
SOTD 2/7/17 Prep: Hot Shower/ Dove Men's Face Scrub Pre-Shave: Proraso White Soap: Soap Commander Passion Brush: Manhandled Wood Shop Boar Razor/ Blade: Merkur 1906/ Personna Lab Blue (1) Astringent: Witch Hazel Post-Shave: SC Passion Balm Aftershave: Captain's Choice Sandalwood Great shave last night. This is a fantastic winter scent. It pairs nicely with the Sandalwood aftershave too. Very smooth shave with no irritation. I forgot how much I love the Proraso White pre-shave cream--really works well and adds slickness. Hope everyone has a good day watching the Super Bowl! Go panthers!
In the USA they demand high prices in good condition..But here in the UK there are loads at a great prices .. Billy..
SOTD 2-7-16 Razor: Holy Black sr-71 with persona lab blue (2) Lather: TOBS Grapefruit Brush: JR 13 Post: Alum and Amici by Italian Barber Overall was a great shave. But I do not think my face likes the persona blades, always seem to get a little irritation regardless of the blade angle and technique in general. Only used them for maybe 5 shaves total but have yet to have an experience that matched that of a GSB. Which sucks because I have a 100 pack. Maybe a PIF or trade is in order. Go Broncos!
SHAVE OF THE DAY PREP: OCCAMS CRUSHED LIME PRE SHAVE SOAP RAZOR: 1953 GILLETTE TECH BLADE: 7 AM (3RD SHAVE...I THINK) BRUSH: OMEGA S SYNTHETIC SOAP: RAZOROCK MOROCCAN SECRET POST: OSAGE RUB/ DAVIDOFF ADVENTURE BALM 2 Pass shave this morning. So far this has been my favorite RR formula I have tried. It has tallow as the second ingredient. The scent is a light citrus lemon, for a light scent it is quite nice, there is something that intrigues me about it. The lather has been wonderful both times I used this soap. It is a new soap so only had the chance to try it twice so far. The 7AM blades are working out nice for my skin, no tugging and they feel sharp. The Osage Rub really helped to wake me up this morning. Hope everyone had a great shave!
•Super Adjustable (9, then quickly to 6) •Shark Super Stainless •mystery soap Good shave. No damage. A bit irritated, heh, but okay. a/s: witch hazel w/alum L'Occitane foot cream (don't laugh, it works great) Lucky Tiger lotion
Great shave today before church. The gear was as follows. -merkur 25c -personna blade (2) -palmolive shave stick. -omega s 10065 brush -siete machos cologne cut about 50/50 with thayers lemon witch hazel for aftershave. The thayers made the cologne feel good on the face and while it cut down on the initial strength of the cologne it didn't seem to shorten the longevity. All in all very refreshing.
