I look at it as a voyage of discovery. I have had the opportunity to try a variety of vintage SE, DE and more recently injectors. Many have come and gone. Fortunate to find vintage razors in excellent condition. I enjoyed the experience -those that didn't make the cut were re-sold. However, I have come to some conclusions: 1) There is more and more of a premium associated with vintage razors (won't even talk about the exorbitant prices of NOS, etc.) 2) Forums have probably increased the spotlight on these items. Some vendors/sites are capitalizing on this. 3) Ironic that - in particular vintage SE were replaced by DE. Personally believe that the SE beats the DE hands down. 4) I have moved away from vintage DE completely - in favour of current stainless steel models. In conclusion: 2 Stainless Steel DEs (ATT R1 - WR1SB) 2 Vintage SEs (BT & 1924) 2 Vintage injectors (Schick G & PAL injectomatic) There is no specific rotation, this "collection" could easily be reduced to one of each or ultimately just one.
I don't own anything I don't shave with. The pride of my collection was PIFed to me by our very own Herm. 64 Slim, gone over by Cap'n Murphy and done with red numbers.
I have a couple of Simplex 7s, which I believe are WWII vintage. They are among the best shaving razors in my too rapidly expanding collection. Having 2 identical razors simplifies testing blades. Give the Simplex a try. Or, if you want to keep just that one as a virgin, you can pick them up at the Bay for $10 pretty much any day.
User with the exception of pristine gold plated. I do have a few user grade of these razors that I use. (I have a cased A-2 Diplomat in pristine condition that I won't use. Birthdate razor)
