February '16 - 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion Thread

I would take the AlumiGoose for the following reasons:

1. Price Maggard Razor is distributing the Mongoose for $179 and will distribute the AlumiGoose for a reported $99
2. Shave For me the AlumiGoose provides a nearly as close a shave with the Feather Pro blade as the Mongoose with a Super Pro blade. That gives the AlumiGoose another level of aggression and efficiency available.
3. The weight of the AlumiGoose head is less than 1/3 the weight of the Mongoose head.

Really not much to add. An automatic 2 pass near BBS work morning shave. It's hard to get much better or easier than this. Finished up with a splash of Fine L'Orange and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Day 5 with the Yellow...and I must say this is a nice blade. Good edge and after several shaves it is getting nice and mellow/smooth. I can see why this blade gets lots of praise on the forums. Two more days with this little charmer and then Derby-land awaits! As someone who was generally a one-blade-man, I didn't realize how much fun I was missing by not playing the field (blades that is)...

Great shave today, one little weeper, but thats all the Alum told me about. 3 pass and a little touch up. DFS, if not BBS. The Route 66 stayed nice throughout. Like this scent, too. Pairs pretty well with the sherlock AS.

 

Chris, I believe the Canadian FH Tech has a slight difference in design, I also find that all of the British and now Canadian made Gillette's that I own feel of better build quality, shave closer, smoother. Of course YMWV. Here's a link that may be of interest

Very relaxing shave, and much needed. I didn't shave yesterday due to my rib injury, yeah it backs when I went and had an X-ray I also did a urinalysis for my kidneys which came back okay. My doctor started me on an antibiotic and a steroid.
I'm liking the Gillette FH Tech, smooth shaving.. This Gingers Garden Rose Petals smells incredible. Having a smaller scuttle that does the same job as my G20 is really nice! I'm going to shave my head later and I can't wait to put warm lather on my dome.

I have wondered about shea butter. I am creature of habit and enjoy the predictability of the Nivea. However, I'm okay with trying some new things. I'll look into it!

 

Perry, if you shave in the morning you might consider using the shea butter at night. This way it can absorb into your skin overnight and it will help with the dryness.

 

I find the unrefined shea butter a bit thick to apply and it often feels too heavy on my skin...so...some time ago I made up a mixture and have found it very easy to make, easy to use and very moisturising. I take equal parts of unrefined shea butter and coconut oil. Microwave it until it melts, mix well and then pour into a container. It will harden (well it remains soft but it is not a liquid...and not a hard solid...kind of in between) at room temperature. Its a winter favourite of mine.

 

Unrefined Shea Butter is a bit thick for me also. I use the Whipped Shea Butter which I find easier to work with.

Day 7. A dozen weepers that required the styptic pencil.

 

Enjoy the head shave, few things come close to the feeling of warm lather on the scalp.

 

That doesn't sound good. What is your usual shave routine? type of products? Just trying to help if I can.

 

I've decided to do a mini focus from today to the 15th on the back of mastering the 1924 and the fact my wonderful wife surprised me tonight with a fatip picollo and a bottle of fine L'orange. I hope this is ok I will return to my planned focus but I'm excited and also have to be polite She has also got takeaway pizza so I'm feeling pretty lucky..... Hang on what is she after?

 

This is "par for the course" for me. My usual routine is: a hot shower or three hot towels; Proraso Preshave; C.O. Bigelow (for the Rule; I also use Arko, MWF, both VDHs, a few Stirlings, etc.); currently a Ranger Tech w/Gillette 7 O'Clock SPs; cold rinse, cold towel, witch hazel, various balms, various ASs.

 

What kind of shave pattern do you use? With DE, I normally go WTG, XTG, and ATG. I always turn the water and the fan off so I can hear when the razor starts cutting and adjust my angle to keep it singing. Very light pressure. When I have a couple of bad shaves in a row, I will stretch out my shaves to every other day or more to let my face bounce back. Hard to know if the weepers are from pressure or angle, but both can be adjusted to experiment.

 

Second shave with my Weber in this round. Didn't get a chance to photograph it last time. Haven't used it for a while besides that. It's so easy to wield around, no chance of a nick unless really careless. It's also great for several days growth. The Supersteel works very well in it.

I'm getting really tired of using the MEM Olive... lol. It's soo bland and unambitious. Still loving the Omega though. Hairs have split like crazy and it's so soft, so soft. Love it!
