Next stop on the G series - the G4. I really like how my G4 looks and wanted to experiment with a different blade in the hopes it would stand out even more. After a short consultation with the Blade Master (

) about NOS Kronas I loaded one up for today's shave. As a side note, I had two days of growth to put the G4/Schick Kronas combo to the test. My first impression was an appreciation for the smoothness of the Krona. It is a different feel. The feel of the blade is obvious but not at all unpleasant. I liked it.
First pass reduction, however, was less than impressive. I'd say it barely registered a rating of, "OK." Second pass reduction was better - a solid, "OK." Third pass was still OK but after some extended wet touch-ups I decided I really needed a fourth pass. There was still plenty of good lather in the brush so I went for it. I very rarely take four passes so this is a clear comment on the sharpness of the blade. It just didn't seem as capable of mowing down the thicker stubble of a multi-day beard as a Personna for example. On the other hand, I only had a couple of very tiny weepers at the corner of my lips that are hard to avoid after 4 passes and wet touch ups.
Conclusion? I like the feel of the Krona but I think it is best to pair it with a more aggressive razor - or use it with less growth. At some point I want to try the G4/Krona combo after a single day's growth to see how it performs. I'm also thinking I'll try it out on the Bunny V3 Wild comb when that opportunity arises.
Edit: I wonder if this was possibly a dud blade? Since I haven't used the Kronas before I don't have a point of reference re: their sharpness. I may try it again when I get to the G6.
