I hope you guys dont mind me asking about my purchases. I just won a three piece Vintage Tech razor in a travel kit. Comes with a comb, toothbrush, 1 original blade, tube of toothpaste and cream... $15.00 shipped. Was this a good purchase? The razor looks absolutely mint. The top piece has Gillette etched on it. The end has a small ball.

Hello, pretty generally, if you are comfortable with the price you paid, then you did good. In this case, for $15 shipped, I too think you did good. Remember, those items in that kit are vintage, and some things, such as the tooth paste, are perishable, and likely beyond their expiration date. Enjoy your journey sir!

That's my day in day out razor. It's lasted longer than my first marriage lol

Nice. I really hoped that I could find vintage gillettes here in Jakarta.

It's not expensive. Cap is pot metal if it means anything. It's a quite light and good travel razor.

Nice kit. If you like the "Ball End" handle, give a "FAT" handle tech a try when you can, they feel really nice to my hand at least.:)

Heck ya. They don't make quality/sturdy little kits like that anymore.

Actually will probably try to flip it. We'll see once it gets here

It's not big, or particularly fancy, but a Tech does give nice shave. Every Gillette stable ought to have one. Mine has the lightly etched logo on the top, with clear finish nearly gone. The photo almost shows the top of yours. Deep cut logo? Either way, congrats on the full kit!

I hope it's not aggressive. I use a super adjustable on no more than a 3 then drop to a 1 on only a 2 pass shave

Also can't you spray a new clear coat on a razor. The logo looks like a deep cut.

In that case, the Tech is perfect for you. I believe some Techs are slightly more aggressive than others but all are at the "mild" end of the spectrum.

I think you'll find it very safe and it'll probably let you shave with sharper blades than other, more aggressive razors.

I really like my Tech (1940's English service set). It's a nice, safe shave and paired with a sharp blade like a Feather it gives fantastic, easy shaves.

I believe the clear finish is lacquer, similar to fingernail polish. If you are careful to remove the old finish you most certainly can spray a new coat of clear. So many choices of materials available today, as compared to back then.

I'm very reluctant to try and put a new clear on my gold. It almost looks like the lacquer is still perfect. I love using it but I really want to keep it perfect. I have a nickel one that's like new I use but the gold feels so decadent.[IMG]

It is. It's embossed into the cap. Others have an acid etch instead. Depending on model.
