As with anything ones does in a daily routine, one is bound to either improve or keep repeating bad habits. I feel as though my efficiency with a straight razor has greatly benefited by my committing to using it regularly. Initially, my plan was to alternate an SR with a DE razor maybe every other day or 50% of the time. In hindsight, by limiting my use of an SR would have steepened my learning curve considerably. As it stands now, I feel quite competent with a variety of blade styles and shapes. Sure, there are still areas I could improve upon (I still find the neck stroke going from ear to adam's apple direction to be slightly challenging and so often bypass it), but I've gotten to the point that my SR shaves are nearly as quick as my best DE shave, and the result near identical.
Once of life's great mysteries to me is how to do a neck stroke going from ear to Adam's apple. It's a against the grain for me and they key to a BBS. How do do this pass?
I do find it difficult and only will attempt it if... 1. I NEED to have a true BBS shave (for special events such as weddings, etc) 2. I use a round-tipped razor. I've gotten too many nicks attempting it with a square or spike point. I CAN achieve it using the spike or square, but for me, its often not worth the effort or risk.
One can perform this whisker removal safely but must first master the sickle cut. Only when you can snatch the pebble from my hand. Holy Buckets Kevin, what a collage!
I am working on the sickle cut, but since sickle and scythe sound similar I keep think of the Grim Reaper.
Great….just as I suspected…I now need to spend more time 'pebble-snatching.' Funny thing is I stopped at 120 because the file size was getting too big. My original plan was a collage of 365...
The parallels are terrifying... Thanks for acknowledging my obscurity. Sometimes I worry I live only to entertain myself...I'm glad when others come along for the ride.
