I'll post some pictures later but I wanted to get this review up before anyone purchased it. :D
I've heard for years about how the Caswell Massey shaving soap was hard to lather. Of course I had to try it myself, after all, YMMV, right? Nope!
This one came in a nice wooden bowl and the scent is really good. That's where the good stops and the bad and ugly begins. I used my usual approach to lathering in the wooden bowl with my Simpson Tulip 2. The lather came up but looked a little funny so I worked it some more, to the tune of a hundred strokes. I had lather but it looked thin and gloppy. I spread it on my face, it didn't look so bad so I changed the blade in my Merkur 38C and looked back to the mirror. What???? The lather was gone, there was just a slight film on my face, really hard to see. I brushed on some more later and began to shave. It does have some slickness to it but the lather kept disappearing, really tough shaving. The shave was a little rough but I finished it. I actually thought it also dried my face out. This puck now resides in my hand soap bowl. I call this one the case of the disappearing lather. As always, YMMV, but I doubt it. :D

The only really nice thing about this soap is the scent. It is lousy even as a shower soap. Man, did I ever throw away my hard-earned money on this stuff.
