I just got a 1932 Gillette Tech Razor and I have tried to do a little research on the DE's as I am mostly into straights but, I was wondering how some of you that own this model like it and the other question I have is there any differences between the Canadian made Gillette and the USA Gillette as far as shave and collect-ability? and which one is preferred?

Oh man! That is a beauty :happy088

Very well done, you have a real gem there.

The gillette tech you have there is an EXCELLENT razor, I have and use quite a few of them. Very easy to use, shave like a lamb, but get you BBS without any trouble. I have found that with the proper angle, I can get 98% BBS in 1-pass.

As far as difference between the Canadian made, and USA-made, I don't think there is any difference in shave-ability, but the Candian version may be more rare and thus "could" have more collectible value.

Now, that's a nice razor, Damon. I have a German-made tech and it's a very gentle razor - methinks I even get better shaves from it than from my Merkur HD - go figure.
My next step will probably be a golden old standard from 1919 - I've got my eyes on a pristine one as we speak :D

my razors have little or no value as collectors, but they all shave great and that's what I got em for...

I'm more concerned with collect-ability and value of being a good shaver.

Same for me. I won't be buying anything to collect. It will all be for how good it does. That includes if I ever get a custom Str8. I'm in it for the shave experience. Just ordered a new Merkur Slant Bar and the "brand new" 38C long handled HD.

I may have chosen a poor choice of words because I am a user of the things I collect, But they do have to function excellent to be a keeper.

Going to try it tonight I will post opinions of it, going to try Persona blades as that is all they had local and I usually use a straight so I have no other DE blades but will order some Merkur blades and a Merkur classic to try at the same time to make a comparison.

Wish I had a few different blades to try. Does any know where one might get a small assortment of available blades?

That's a nice Tech. I don't have one of the heavy handled ones like that. My gold Tech has the slimmer handle with the ball end.

Sweet looking razor, Damon. As far as blades, http://www.cottonblossomcrafts.com has bulk Feather blades, which I find to be the best in a Tech.

Otherwise, there is a fellow at another forum that offers a sample pack. Try here: http://westcoastshaving.com/.

You get a sample of five different blades. Five or ten packs, I think. Merkur, Feather, Israeli Personna, Derby and Swedish Gillettes (my favorite).

I agree with Blair, Feathers work really well in the Tech, but I find the red Personnas work great, too - at least for me :D

I have one and it's a great little razor. I use it with either a Crystal blade or Wilkinson UK. Smooth and sweet!

Well here is my review, the look of the razor cool I like it. Not as heavy as it looks. appears to be chrome plated instead of nickel as I think it would be heaver. Now the prep

Hot shower glycerin soap face wash
    Hot towel
    Lather Williams mug soap
    Hot towel again
Lather Williams mug soap mix with Colleens Desert Ironwood
    Gillette Tech first pass
Lather Williams mug soap mix with Colleens Desert Ironwood
    Second pass
Warm , then Cold water rinses
    Pinaod after-shave

Great shave smooth this razor would be great for sensitive skin. Love it.

Glad to hear it worked well for you :D

I see you enjoy some of the same stuff I do (Williams and TGQ)....is that TGQ you mix in the cream or the soap?

I mix the soap (not cream), the Desert Ironwood tends to sting a bit on my face by it's self, but the smell is just killer. I'm addicted.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I have exactly the same razor, made in Canada.
My question is this. Does number 1932 represents the year it was made or is it something else?
If it's something else then when was this razor made?
    Thx.

Welcome to The Shave Den, slayer666!

Yes, 1932 refers to the year this particular Tech in this thread was made. But I believe Tech's were made for more than one year.

I think Techs have a datecode on the underside of the razor's head. If so, you can check the datecode from your Tech against this list of datecodes.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanx for reply.
No date code on mine, just this

    PAT.CANADA 1932

    Gillette logo MADE IN CANADA

    Is this a year then?
