Hi all, I'm a noob who impulsively purchased a razor (my first DE) online. Some might remember I asked for help ID-ing it. (Thanks!)

I've given it a good clean, and its really in great shape. There's the odd tiny speck of nickel plating coming off. But nothing major. Cool little original Bakelite box, made in England.

I just had my first DE shave with it. I can't believe how easy it was, no cuts or nicks, and a damn fine shave. I bought a little sampler pack to try. The Egyptian 'Shark' blades seemed really good. I used the Body Shop maca cream. My Omega boar brush is still coming in the post, so I just made do with a basic lather.

Overall, I'm really pleased! I'm now planning on getting it replated so it can last another 70 years :)

Welcome Nosebubble and congrats on the great shave. Don't feel too bad about the impulsive buy. I'd say 99.9325% of us all fall into the same category.

To tell you the truth, many people talk about the Super Speeds and Aristocrats and such, and those ARE fine razors, but I think the Gillette Tech is one of the nicest, mildest, smoothest , most underated shavers out there. I have one and I can count on doing 3 passes with zero irritation every time.

Yeah, this is definitely a wierd hobby/life change! Sometimes to move forward you have to go backward ( in age of equipment )! Some of the old/vintage stuff just can't be beat with newer stuff.

And I have been bitten pretty bad by the acquisition bug! Look in THE HAUL thread for my recent post to see what I mean! :) But hey, it's fun and challenging to find and rescue vintage stuff and put it back in use. And with time and patience it really doesn't have to break the bank. Most of the razors I have found have been in the $8-15 range!! Some are in awesome condition too after a lot of love and scrubbing but well worth it to see them shine and gleam again. I swear I have seen a few smile to be brought back to life again! ;)

So enjoy and have fun both in the acquisition and use of your items! Good luck!

Turned out sweet looking and is a rarer razor than many other Gillette Techs. Enjoy!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I have to admit, I have the bug now and I'm keeping an eye on more old razors for sale! I am interested in this one for sale...is this an Old Type? The pattern on it isn't crosshatched, so I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm? Thanks a lot!

Here is a rather grubby view under the head. It looks like it says "British Made"? I haven't seen or heard of any razors that say this, usually its 'England'. Maybe its not an authentic Gillette? The 'seam' running down the handle is curious. But the shape of the handle looks correct? Hmmm.... :thanks:

Welcome. Techs are some of the best razors made in my opinion.

    Now let the addiction begin.
