I am looking for a 1953 Gillette razor. The date code reads to be Y-3, which should be 1953. However, there is also a Y-3 that is a 1978. Of the 2 pictures below are they both a 1953, or is is possible that one is a 1953 and the other a 1978?
The black handled one is definitely 1978. The notes on the datecode chart help you figure some stuff out. (hopefully someone can provide a link as I can't copy and paste one for you at the moment.) The black handles were introduced in 1969. So that one can't be from 1953.
Correct. The black handle Super Speed is from 1978. Here's the razor and blade dating page I use when I need to: http://www.safetyrazors.net/gil_ser2.htm
And my razor has the diamond with the arrow through it and it also has T and a 4 on it and it said pat off
The T and the 4 is the date code. T is a ( I believe) 1973 and the 4 is the fourth quarter of the year.
Granted, but typing in the Google search bar, "how old is my gillette razor?" Would have given equivalent results.
well of course.there is a lot of hidden treasure in the archives though..when i have googled stuff, 10 year old shave den posts have come up..
You want a fun one to Google? Google a 1939 #45 popular set. There's a razor you never see in SOTD pictures.
