My first anniversary of DE shaving will be here on February 7th and I thought it would be a good time to reflect on my endeavors over the past year. It started when I was looking for a cheaper alternative to the fusion razor. I recalled seeing DE blades in the store and figured that if I ever found a DE razor, I'd give it a try. Lo and behold! I found a VDH razor in the supermarket! $20 didn't seem to be too risky, so I splurged and bought it. Even though it was the middle of the day, I used it the moment I got home. It was my eureka moment! I started checking the internet for all things DE related. I started reading the forums, this one included, though it wouldn't be till May that I joined The Shave Den. I was intrigued that people would actually use 50+ year old razors that possibility had cooties from people long gone from this world. Surely these razors must be NOS, or these people are just nuts! Before I knew it, I lost my fear and made the plunge and couldn't be happier! 24 vintage DE razors, 2 SE razors, 2 modern DE razors,900+ blades of assorted varieties, 16 soaps, 8 bottles of aftershave, 4 brushes! Whew! What a ride! To think, I did this to save money! I didn't expect it to become a hobby, but I'm glad it did! I'm looking forward to the next year of DE shaving and can only guess what's in store!
Congrats on the anniversary. It's obvious you've contracted every AD there is and you're enjoying it. When/where is the party?
I'm just about on my first anniversary as well. Friend of mine introduced me to it and I haven't looked back. Started with a Merkur 34c and a silvertip brush with a ToBS classic soap. now have 4 different types of blades, 2 razors, 2 brushes, 5 creams with two en route, 4 lotions, 2 colognes, a few edts and other accoutrements. And I've taken over the ensuite bedroom as my personal shave den. Already looking at what my next razor will be and want a vintage one.
I'm glad to be here. I totally forgot to say THANK YOU to everyone here for all of the help, encouragement, friendship and enabling over this past year! Thanks!
Happy anniversary! lol I also thought I would save money hahaha. The good thing is that I enjoy shaving now, and it has turned into a hobby.
