I have been using williams since the 90s, so i dont get the lather that disapears, that was very foreign to me until I saw it on youtube videos, in fact I didnt realize people were having so many issues with williams, in addition i didnt realize they changed the formula until I read it here a few months ago, as far as slickness and cushion goes stirling has it beat, but both soaps are efficient enough for me. I have never had any shave soap fall apart before i finished a shave.
NOT always. I had a puck of Dominica shave soap. That's right, the same manufacturer as the Bay Rum. Outstanding scent. Oh, how I wanted that soap to lather. Alack and alas, there was no way on this earth I could get anything that resembled a stable lather. Period. And my friends, I do know how to lather a soap. Sorry Fuzzy, I know this is a Williams thread. Please forgive me yet again.
I loved dominica bay rum, i used to get it ata orvis shop, have not seen it in years though, do they still make it?
They did until last year. The tiny island of Dominica was the first landfall for hurricane Maria. The cat 5 storm pretty much flattened the whole island. Production should eventually resume, but I have no idea how long. The US distributor is www.calantilles.com. It would show up there first.
Nothing is absolute, but generally speaking it holds true. Every once in a while, a Mustang II is released, but they don't last long.
Well, I did it. When I was at the grocery store, I spent $1.79 on a box of Williams Mug Soap. Went home, put it in the bottom of a wide coffee mug, filled it with warm water and dropped the boar brush in with it to soak. About a minute later, all the water was poured out and the brush was shaken a bit to remove excess water. Then, I just started swirling. I made the lather right there on top of the soap. First foam, then airy cream, then thick shiny lather. Perfect! I'm not sure what all the bad press is about. Maybe it is sensitive to mineral levels in the local water? I don't know. It wasn't really time to shave, but what the heck, another pass won't hurt. The Williams provided a nice slick, protective lather. The smell was a bit reminiscent of Arko, so people might be put off by it. I'm not going to "back shelf" my Stirling, Pre de Provence, Valobra, Muskgo, Arko, etc., but I will definitely put this Williams in my rotation. Super bargain for less than 2 bucks.
