$2.00 Mystery Razor. "4 S Razor"

I bought this one for fun, and it's on the way to me, as we speak. It is still sealed in its original box, so the condition is unknown. Anyone know about these. It says 1914 Patent on the box.
Any collector value, or just rip it open and see what is inside??

Don't know if it's the same type, but I found this. Has the same patent date though.

Also found this pic of the blades. There are a few of these razors on Ebay.Blade width is 5/8".

 

Anyone ever use one?

I wonder if those larger Personna blades will work. From an Ebay ad, it stated the blade has a width of 5/8", but I personally don't know the Personna blades dimensions.

 

That all depends on the condition of the blades.

I dont own any of the Personna SE blades. If I cannot make the original ones work, I probably wont waste the money on a pack of Personnas, That will rarely get used.

Well, it looks like it had been used before. I cant think of them making a blade that was already smiling, and a dull as a butter knife. The razor looks to be in very good condition, except for a little powdered rust at the hing. The blade, on the other hand, looks like it was used as a box cutter for many years. So, it looks like someone resealed it. I thought if the blade might be in decent shape, I could sharpen it. But it is much too worn out for that.
Maybe I could find some blades somewhere.

 

Wow, that is bad. Did the seller not include the picture of the other side of the box the showed the broken seal?

 

There was no way to open the box, even with the side seal splitting, as shown. I checked the box, and the glue, on one side looks like it was resealed, many years ago. The factory seal on the box still looked intact. Oh well, this probably saved me a bunch of nicks and cuts.

 

Maybe it's evidence of a fraudulent return someone made years ago...

Sorry for it not being what you want! I was in a shop today and they had a handful of blades with no scales and I was wondering if anyone would be in the market....

 

Depends on the maker, condition, and prices.

 

There was a wade and butcher but Id have to go back for a pick. Its was 8 or 10 bucks I remember that. All the blades were the same price.

It's actually the first time Ive seen a shop with blades in paper.

I also found 3 or 4 new places but they arent open till this weekend so Ill have some new hunting grounds since my onl place has been getting repeatedly raided now.
