I am new to this board....and this is my first post.

I have been trying so many differnet types of razors from the Quattro, Hydro 3 and 5 and a safety razor. And I am looking for suggestions on a new cartrige razor with minimal blades that will still get the job done and make my face BBS. The Hydro 3 seems to work the best (but way too much goo). I have not tried the Mach 3 or the Sensor....woudl those work better?

I'm not a cartridge user so I can't be any help.

But I will say welcome to the Den!

There are quite a few around here still using the Atra type two-blade carts.

    Not me though.

IMHO, anything with 2-blades and NO lube strip is as good as cartridges get. Don't be afraid of 3rd party refills either.

The Hydro 3 is not bad at all, and you can easily snap that goo module off; it is distracting, isn't it? I also like my old twin bladed Atra well enough, with affordable Personna cartridges rather than the Gillette ones. Finding a modern handle for these is problematic, though.

If you were looking for the minimum number of blades anyway, you might want to cave in to the peer pressure around here and try a classic single bladed safety razor, maybe even a straight if you feel adventurous.

Oh, did I say welcome? No I didn't. So I'll say it now.:signs046

  6. experience, 4 titanium wilkinson, Gillette and Fusion are the best, even if you shave with ED and 'one!

    Welcome to TSD..

I went up the blade ladder until I hit three.. and then I quit the madness.. seemed like with each blade the price compounded and frankly, the shave with a Mach III was no better than with a Trac II and likely the same as with a Quattro or a vibrating thingy...

Ironically, (to a cart shaver) since switching the single blade (double edge) shaves have improved exponentially and while the price per shave has plummeted to pennies instead of dollars, the over-all cost has increased for me because I like to collect stuff..

Hmmmm.. something about this guy's name leads me to suspect he may not be so taken with the idea of a classic double-edged safety razor... but I can't quite put my finger on it... and is that a draft I feel?

I do love my cartrige razors. Although i am trying out the DE razors. I have a Gilette Tech. No luck with that razor though.

I like the close shave on with that razor. Plus there is no drag. I will have to try to snap that goo stip off. It is really distracting. I think i get a better shave with it after it wears out.

I started shaving with a Mach III in 2000 and switch to DE in 2005 and now and then I'm using twin blades. I have tried Trac II but I'm using more the twin blades from personna.

I've used Atra and Sensor. If you go Sensor, I recommend avoiding the lube strip. I've never used the Trac II, but it seems to get similar reviews.
