    Hi Everyone.

    We flipped over another month and have turned the corner as we are now in August. It's a good time because we don't have to change our soaps and aftershaves until the next season. I must admit we had some interesting shaves last month. Some of us brought out interesting gear and that's one of the purposes of this thread. Showing different razors is great because it gives everyone more awareness of what's available in our wetshaving community. So, I personally thank all of you for sharing your shaves last month because I learned about some items and I am sure some of you did as well.

    Monthly Themes

    Ok, this is an easy and logical suggestion. It's Adjustable August. That's right get out your adjustable razors! I see Gillette, Parkers, Supply or Schick SE razors and others making an appearance this month. It could be Awesome Aftershave August. Yes, that's a brand new theme on this thread. Use your favorite aftershave or aftershaves this month. There's always Arko August. Finally, I am in a New York State of mind and I'm thinking of a Broadway show tune by Cole Porter and that is Anything Goes. So, Anything Goes is always an easy monthly theme. We'll, that about covers it.

    Ok, let's continue with the basic tenets of this thread!

    I want to welcome all the veterans of the 30 DC and all the newcomers. This thread is for the purposes of improving your shave technique so that you will consistently get great shaves. There are a number of ways to do it. These are suggestions so feel free to do whatever you want in regards to your shave.

    The 30 Day Rule
    Take ONE razor, ONE blade, ONE brush, ONE soap/cream and use them EVERYDAY this month. Yes, everyday. But Trigger, I want variety! I know you do, but until you perfect your technique, it makes little sense to constantly change the variables of your shave.

    The Focus
    For you out there that are not up to the rigors of the Rule, there is this alternative:
    Vary the gear for each shave, save for perhaps one or two elements.
    This is a more accessible challenge for the majority of shavers. I like to pick a particular aspect of the shave, be it the lather, a certain blade or a new razor, that needs breaking in, and not change it daily, until I have mastered those tools.

    Ok, to keep the thread on a nice even keel, I ask everyone to follow the thread etiquette as listed below:

    1. New Members always welcome. Start anytime.
    2. Old Members always welcome.
    3. Respect everyone.
    4. Refrain from political conversation.

    I also want to suggest that we should try to assess our shaves as to why it was good or why it was not up to your standards and express these reasons in your comments. The spirit of this thread is to improve our shaves and if we share the reasons why a shave was good or bad, then we are giving our experiences to encourage good technique and discourage bad technique so that we have great info to get better shaves. I am not suggesting that we do it for every post, but I think it would make for a healthier thread if we start to do it more than we have in the past years.

    Moreover, you don't have to do a rule or a focus. You are free to change your setup on a shave to shave basis.

    Finally, I want this thread to continue to be a friendly place. It is ok to disagree because that is how we learn from each other, but let's encourage and respect every member. Yes, even if you think they are off the wall. Let's face it! We all are a little off because of our different Aquisition Disorders. Lol!

    Let's have a group hug!

    Also, let's have great shaves and fellowship in August!

    Sincerely,

    Joe (Trigger)

    Well, the Rise surprised me a bit by struggling to come out. Once it DIDD, I got a fine shave. I think it's meant for colder weather though. I'll try it a few more times this summer to see if it can exit a little better. Maybe dunk it under the tap, although its feature is that it seeps moisture onto the skin. But I'm glad I have it, just the same.One pass. Zero cuts, Knicks, Polka-dots. Feels real nice on my skin, just a little warm. Probably needs a colder aftershave to compliment it. Skin-Bracer is OK, but I'm talkin Osage Rub or a Stoylin Glacial. Giving it another go tomorrow. One-Man Show cologne to finish. Super Duper Outstanding. Let's have some great August shaves!

    Days growth = 1
    Prep = Hot water prep
    Preshave = Proraso
    Cream/Soap = ARKO
    Brush = pura setola
    Bowl = Timeless
    Razor = Gillette Popular 1939
    Blade = Big Ben (1 and done)
    Passes = 2 +
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayers, Nivea balm to counteract the Arko drying out
    ASL = Old Spice
    Scent = Santal Spirit Sandalwood
    Score = 9+++ /10. Super, nice longevity towards the end late afternoon
    Damage = Zero

    Gave the Big Ben another chance. To be fair it does shave, as all blades do. It was better in the OC. The only thing was the brass of the old Popular didn’t slide as easily in the Arko as I would have liked, thinned the Arko down for the 2nd pass, somewhat better

    The Popular sure does remove the whiskers
    Nice adjustment in swapping from the Techs to the Popular, nice weight to the razor

    Have some Great Thursday shaves gents
