    Thanks John. I like synthetics because they whip up the lather very quickly. I find my Badger brushes don't have a good flow through so I have to compensate by loading heavy. My two boar brushes provide a nice lather, but a little more work is necessary to get it.

    Days growth = 2

    04 Mar 2024 SOD 1200 80.jpg

    Prep = 3 x HOT water soak
    Preshave = TOBS Jermyn street massage
    Cream/Soap = Derby Soap
    Brush = Omega Pura Setola
    Bowl = Timeless
    Razor = Gillette Nacet / 7 o’clock
    Blade = Gillette 7 o’clock black super platinum
    Passes = 2 +
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, CWR, Thayers
    ASL = Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum
    Scent = Guerlain Pour Homme
    Damage = none

    2 days growth, so I choose an OC and did a proper hot water prep
    The razor is old and the cap not as smooth as it could be, so I chose what I thought would be a good soap for the shave with a safe blade. Hmmm. Bit of rough shave. Care to ride the cap, no damage done, overall good shave but not a stellar combination. I remember the Derby to be better than this, so I can only assume the dragging was partly due to the not so smooth cap on the razor

    Ended the shave after 2 passes, one pass on the back of the neck only

    Caution, common sense, discretion and due diligence prevented any damage

    Have a lovely Monday gents

    Pretty fine shave this morning. Again, the Kairos 2022 soap(Grooming Dept). set me up for a nice shave. Clean&clear in all areas except South Porcupine, where I got a cut just above the jawline, left side. No Knicks, Polka-dots. That one glitch(Porcupine)cost me the highest of comments. 2 passes. Again, the Russian Leather(TSD store)finished me off well. Super Duper Outstanding.

    SRS # 1050 - March Mug Madness - Stirling SDM

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Thiers-Issard Super Gnome Extra
    Brush: Leo Frilot Custom NYR 26 mm Synthetic
    Pre-Shave: Pears Transparent Soap
    Lather: Stirling Sharped Dressed Man
    Aftershave: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

    An excellent Stirling soap shave this morning. Three passes with the Thiers-Issard razor, my first straight picked up 22 years ago, delivered an exceptionally close shave.
    I am enjoying using my mugs. Back around 1975, I picked up an Old Spice mug/soap set. Unfortunately, upon my return from college in 1980 the mug set disappeared. To this day I do not know if my mother or one of my siblings inadvertently discarded it. The mug in this picture I picked up about 6 years ago on the Bay.

    Hope you all have a great day gentlemen.

    Marvelous Monday shave Chris. The last sentence is true regardless of the razor and blade combination.

    Terrific Thiers-Issard shave Joe. That's a shame about the unsolved mug disappearance.

    Good afternoon.

    Gillette Fatboy (9)
    Wilkinson Sword DE Blade (5)
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
    TSD Irish Spring SS and AS
    Stirling Alum
    Block Modessa Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 24.5 hrs

    20240304_170625.jpg

    Did a quick 3 pass shave for an error-free BBS result. There wasn't any alum feedback. Witch hazel and matching aftershave were applied. I was very quick with the face lathering so it translated into a fast shave. Tomorrow; I will be using a safety razor for a head shave and a traditional straight for my face shave. Take care.
