So my brother in law got a 3D printer. He owns a small tool and gage company in the Detroit suburbs. He was experimenting with the machine and asked me if there was anything I wants him to print. So I sent him a schematic from Shapeways of a brush handle, and he printed it. It's got a 22mm aperture, so now I just need a knot to go in it. Only drawback? The color. It's um.... Unique.
That's awesome! The color is an interesting choice. I wonder what capabilities exist with color mixing and 3d printing...
It wasn't so much a choice as the default. My brother-in-law bought the printer, I asked if he could print a handle and sent him the file, and the next thing I knew, he sent me a pic of the finished product. He just used the raw material he already had in the machine. He said it took about 3.5 meters of material... So like $4 or less.
That's very cool, and the color is fine. It's unique, and you'll always remember that it came from your brother-in-law.
UPDATE: the knot I ordered came in, and I epoxied it. Now just waiting for the epoxy to set, and it will be ready for a shave! I went with a boar knot from Virginia Sheng, courtesy of eBay. I have to admit, now that a knot is mounted, it looks better!
