I am having a custom brush made with a badger knot its 40mm in size with a 5 inch handle made from oak is this overkill?
My two favorite brushes ... The first is a restored Hardright Davy Jones with a 22mm Sunrise synthetic knot and the second one is a restored Fuller with a 25mm Tuxedo Fan top synthetic knot.
The biggest brush I use is one made for me by @Jayaruh with a 30mm Tuxedo knot. And as you can see, with a Gillette Fatboy next to it, it's a big one. Overall length is just shy of 5". Don't know if I'd get a larger one.
Egads. The largest brush I had used was a Simpson chubby 2 at 28mm and it was just a bit much for me. 40mm is way outside my wheelhouse. Good luck with the monster.
That's wayyyyy tooooo BIG for my liking, 30mm is really big IMO, 40mm? It would make a neat show piece.
For me, anything over 24mm is too big. Again, like I said about your replated Fatboy, please ask our opinions BEFORE you drop the money and order things.
I'm afraid 40mm is, for the average shaver, approaching the boarder of "Too Damn Big to Use, Realistically". Pretty bomb shave den conversation piece, however...
I was debating knot size as well and then was thinking what fits me may not work best for my wife or possibly a headshaver. I am having a custom brush done for my wife as she has more real estate to shave as would a head shaver. Then again I am content with a 22mm or the 24mm 30DC club brush I got. Both suit me great.
Here is a 31 mm vs a well bloomed 26. I have one thought: That 31 is right at 4" bloomed. It takes a heck of a big tub of soap to load it. I cannot imagine a 40.
My prob is I have a gotee so I dont need a huge brush and if I use a bigger one I soap up the gottee pretty heavy. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Do you mean 40mm loft? A 40mm knot sounds large, I didn't think you could find knots that big. I've seen pictures of really big brushes that are meant to be window displays, like the Simpson Sampson or something like this Rooney.
I restore a Fuller to a 25mm and think thats plenty big in a knot. As for a handle, I used a Omega 10098 and it felt like I was using a white wash brush.
