Well, after 2 years of being on a queen, with a sagging middle... Whitney and I finally went out and bought a new mattress today. Well, really, she bought it with her much larger than expected bonus, but that's okay. We were going to get a Tempurpedic, but ended up with a Simmon's Beautyrest Black (http://www.beautyrestblack.com/) with about 135 layers, king size. Of course, that meant we had to get a new bed too, so we picked that out as well and it will all be delivered on Saturday. The bed is soooo comfortable. It does have memory foam in it, so that's nice. She described it as it felt like she was floating, so of course we had to go with that one. For me, I had wanted the tempurpedic, but I was always concerned about the heat factor. I've heard they are warm beds to sleep on, and I run a high body temp anyway (I wear short sleeves year round... in New England). Anyway... I'm excited We've talked about getting a king size for awhile, glad we finally did it. The queen is just a tad small, I'm 6'1" 210lbs and she's... well I'm not supposed to say... she's beautiful, she's not 5' 90lbs... and that's all I'll say (actually she's in a photo in one of the threads here). That's all I have, just wanted to share with you fine people
No kidding... but I look at it this way... 8 hours a day, if it lasts 10 years... we just spend $400/year for something to sleep on, barely over $1/day. Bigger picture... awesome deal.
We are anxiously awaiting the delivery of our new Sleep Comfort bed here. :bounce015 I'm excited! Our current bed is so uncomfortable, I've actually been sleeping on the couch for months now. Hope you enjoy your new bed too Michael! ps- Sleep Comfort offers a 20 year limited warranty.
I'm a huge fan of my gigantic waterbed. At my height I can lay in any direction, and not overlap.... It's great. Nothing worse than being on a small bed, head in the board, and ankles dangling over the edge.
I have one. Great Mattress. (for a few grand it should be:rofl ) Way better than a Coffin Locker Bed.
Congrats JoAnna!! Past 10 years, I didn't pay attention to warranty... that seems long enough to me. I've decided to start taking 3-500 out of my tax returns each year and just throw it in savings... then in 10 years I can take it out and replace the mattress. Did you get the dual chamber one?
I don't expect to need the warranty at all, but it's nice to have. Yes, we got the dual chamber, queen size. Thank you, Ron. Yep, sleep number bed. My number is 30, Chris' is 75. Michael, sorry for the hijack. :ashamed001
Thanks JoAnna! I know there's no category in "Reviews" for mattresses, but I think it would be nice to have a review category for "All Things Not Shaving Related" for those who would like to post a review of their new things, whatever they might be. It could possibly provide some valuable input. Just my 2 cents, FWIW. Regardless I'd like to hear a full report on all your new mattresses.
How Do I Love Thee? Mattress, mattress, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee when the sun has set, When my butt is dragging, And my energy is sagging. I love thee at the end of every hectic day, When the sweet smelling candles are all lit, And the pillows are all fragranced and fluffed, I love thee truly as I drift into the night. I love thee with a passion when daylight comes. When you've warmed me and caressed me, I love thee with a love too much to get up. You make me ignore alarms and wake up calls, I cannot bear to let you go. I love thee all too well, and then I remember, The payments are waiting, the boss will be shouting. I must now leave you for my other lover! O Starbucks, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways!!
SWMBO and I kinda struggled along with a queen bed and middle-of-the-pack priced mattress for quite a few years, and last year we finally decided we'd had enough. So we went with a Simmons BeautyRest king mattress. (Not quite as high-end as the Black, but still nice.) VERY nice. It was hilarious how much higher off the floor this one was compared with our old queen mattress. And there is finally enough room to turn over and not smack each other in the nose. If you have the room AT ALL, I would HIGHLY recommend a king bed for couples. Michael, I'll bet you'll be amazed at how the new bed sleeps and wonder how you did without it!
Our current bed is so high off the floor I need steps to get in it :ashamed001 , and while I was pregnant I made Chris get rid of the bed frame so I didn't have to climb in or worry about falling out.
we invested in a tempurpedic a few years back....didn't really have the money then, but it was worth it. The first two days we absolutely could not get out of bed. We just wanted to keep sleeping. It has really helped. I do not toss and turn like I used to and even when I have to roll over to my other side, I do not wake up my wife who is an extremely light sleeper. The heat thing has not been an issue. I understand that the original tempurpedic had this problem. we got the thicker one which allows more air into the layers of the matress to keep it cooler. I run super hot as well. I am always very comfortable when everyone else seems to be freezing. The quality of sleep I get is much better as well. When I can't sleep that long it still seems like I was able to get more than I used to be able too. Anyway, congratulations on the new bed purchase. One of the best investments money can buy is a descent nights sleep.
Congrats on the new mattresses! It must be that time of year. Paul & I went and ordered a Select Comfort Queen, dual chamber also. We are getting a heck of a deal on it. The store is doing a couple shows this and next weekend, we bought next weekend's demo bed for a whopping 25% off (and a free mattress pad thrown in).
I need to do this soon myself. Probably go for a sale, or a floor model if one is available. You can go to five grand for a mattress!! I'm looking for under a thousand.
Personally, I would never buy a floor model or any other discounted mattress... for the amount of time I'm on the mattress, it's not worth it.
