I picked up this Revamped 1959 Gillette Fat Boy Code E-1 from Razor Emporium finished in vintage nickel. They say this finish is exactly like the original Gillette nickel finish on a razor. I cannot tell in anyway that this razor was re-plated. It looks like a super clean new old stock razor in mint condition. It does not look re-plated in anyway like some razors that I have seen that have been redone. It works and performs flawlessly like new. I am very pleased with this razor purchase and as said it looks as original in finish as I have ever seen. * Razor Emporium did an excellent job on this 1959 Gillette Fat Boy revamp. * I Just Love Fat Boys & Slims they are my favorite Gillette models. That is an excellent job. Any chance you can add this to a thread I started, so Razor Emporium can be properly represented? https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/comparing-razor-plating-services-with-pics.67800/ .
No problem I added this information to that thread. My experience so far with them is good as you can see. If they continue to do work like this they deserve proper recognition. Bill G
Pictures For Comparison. Here is another pic of my 1959 E-1 Fat Boy revamp done by Razor Emporium. The razor on the left is the Fat Boy that was revamped by Razor Emporium. The Fat Boy on the right is my original condition 1959 E-2 razor that has never been touched other than clean up and sterilization. * As mentioned the finish on the revamp looks original I cannot tell any difference. Wow, that looks perfect! I have used the Razor Emporium Tune-up service 3 times, and I have been very pleased with the outcome each time. For the Tune-up, they disassembled, cleaned, adjusted, polished, and touched up any paint (for example, numbers and the blue and red tips). For a Gillette black beauty, they repainted the entire handle with powder coat. It looked perfect, like new! All three of these razors still had adequate plating so that they could be just polished without the need to replate.
Wow those razors look great. From what I have seen in general it seems like Razor Emporium is currently doing good solid work on razor revamps and tune ups. As stated my 1959 Fat Boy looks brand new and in no way could I tell it was revamped they did a fantastic job just like on your razors. I love the pic’s thanks for sharing. Happy Shaves, Bill G
Lucky me I live close to Razor Empourium, it is close to VA Hospital & Clinic. So I stop when near. Razor Emporium hosted Arizona Wet Shave Meetup two weeks ago. Awesome event, with 2,000 bucks in raffles. Going to meetup in 2026.
Thats pretty darn cool. I live about 4 hours from Razor Emporium here in Arizona. I do need to get up there way and stop in and check things out. I may even spend some more money there… Lol Happy Shaves, Bill G
