Decided to showcase a three of my Tech razors and shed some light to what is the second longest production "name" run of any Gillette razor. The Tech razor has been produced for the western world from 1939-79 and in 2008 in India for the local market as the 7 o'clock Tech. The Tech was Gillette's first solid bar razor rather than the open comb. Tech razors have been made of varying metals and plastics and in more than 6 countries. Aggressiveness has ranged from moderate to mild with the early moderate variety being preferred by most users and collectors. Here are 3 showing different handles with specific markings under the base head. Head weights and thicknesses also varied throughout the model years effecting aggressiveness and efficiency. Left - Triangular pre-war base with thicker cap. Late 30's. Middle - X 2 stamped on base (1952) Right - W 4 stamped on base (1951) These all provide great shaves. It's incredible how the different handle gives a different feel to the shave, be it the width, weight or grip. These happen to be all of the Canadian variety due to local availability. I had a U.S. built one which ended up at a friends house permanently post trial. I can confirm that the razors are similar. See link for more pictures and information. Patent link.
To be fair, I think the Tech razors stayed truer to type than the Aristocrat. Gillette tended to badge whatever was their highest quality or 'flagship' razor at the time with that name.
