A Visit From My Dad..

I posted this in another forum but it still means so much to me I wanted to post here as well....

Start with a little background: My dad was my childhood hero. In spite of the fact that he worked 12+ hour days and I didn't see him much during the week, we would go camping/hunting every year, he'd take me shooting, taught me to use a bow, Shoot black powder, Indian Guides, coached my elementary school soccer team...the works.

Well my parents split up when I was 13 and, except for holidays, I didn't see him much. He then got lupus and I got to watch him slowly melt away until he (mercifully) died on my 23rd birthday (yeah, ON my birthday). I got most of the gun collection but there really wasn't much, from a daily activity standpoint, that we shared or he was able to pass down to me.

fast-forward to today: I have been into the whole DE shaving thing about a month and have thought SEVERAL times how great it would be to share the story so many of you have about having a razor, brush, etc passed from father to son but know that was not possible (we've already been thru all his possessions, he died almost 20 years ago). Well last week I went to check the mail and there's a package from my mom. I open it up and inside is my dad's DE razor (a '53 SS)! apparently my wife was telling my mom about my new hobby and she remembered she had one in her medicine cabinet that has been there almost 30 years! The best shave of my life was using this the first time. I cant tell you what it meant to see that and have something my dad used everyday that I can now use and remember him.

Friend, that story sincerely touched my heart. I'm blessed to have my father with me but I can't get that old bear to give his darn cartridge razors up! The best i'll get are some old shirts and ties!

Hope that razor gives you years to come of fantastic shaves! Enjoy it!

That's a really great story and I'm glad you took the time to share it with us. From what I hear (I've never used one) you have a great razor to go along with the connection to your Father.

What a heart-warming memory! My Daddy always used a Norelco electric razor but back in his day (he was born in 1923) he used a DE. I remember him shaving with his electric razor and he always used an adjustable mirror with a ceramic rose adorned base that belonged to his Mother. He never shaved with anything different. He has since passed, but the memories of him shaving stay with me always ..

You have touched my heart today with your story ... Many Happy Shaves to you with your SS and may you always keep your Dad in your heart. :)

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father when you were younger; however, it was great to hear that you were able to recover his razor and can keep that memory!

Great story! My dad was killed in an accident when I was 8 months old, so I don't remember him. But I do have his mug, brush and blade bank. When My mom passed away, his gold Gillette tech was lost somehow, or I would have the full set.

Wow. Thanks ALL of you. I knew people here would understand probably more than anyone else. I've read several stories around these forums of similar background so I was especially moved to be able to share in that, and share WITH you! Again, Your appreciation means a lot, really, thank you.

Wow! I'm sorry to hear that.

It's awesome that you have some of his things to keep him a part of your life, even though I'm sure they are in no way a replacement for him.

Welcome to The Shave Den! :signs046
