After shaving with your DE what do you do with the razor and blade? I have been cleaning both off under the sink of course and I hang my razor up and put the blade on a paper towel. Is this adequate or is there something I could do better or just not bother doing? Thanks guys.
I rinse off my razor, leave the blade in, and sit it on my sink top to dry. (This may not be a great idea if you have children.) I swap out the blade after three shaves.
Rinse razor, remove blade, dry throughly, hand strop blade, and reassemble. Blade gets only three shaves.
I rinse, shake, then dip in alcohol and return it to the rack. After about 3 shaves I ditch the blade and scrub the razor with an old toothbrush before installing a new blade.
Rinse and toss in the drawer. I've lightened up considerably in the past year. Most of my razors are much older than me so I figure they can handle it.
I rinse it, put it back on the rack. I don't put a dollar's worth of work into something that costs a nickel, so the blade remains unmolested from the time I put it in until I toss it out. I let each blade give me 3 shaves, no more-no less, so I don't see the point in babying it. Most of the traditions and tips/tricks for blades came from the depression, when a blade was nursed along for as long as possible. I don't make that a part of my routine.
I take the blade out and rinse it to get all the soap off it then reassemble leaving it a bit loose to dry better on the rack. when I pick it back up I check tightness before I even make it to the bathroom.
I rinse all the soap out, shake dry and put the razor in the cabinet until the next day. I leave the blade in until it's ready to change which can be anywhere from 3-10 shaves. Usually somewhere around 5-7 shaves though. I don't see any rusting so I don't see the need to do any more. I figure there's more of a chance of me damaging the edge messing with the blade so I just leave it alone.
I rinse razor and blade, take razor apart, I use a little micro fiber cloth to dry the razor and blade. Put everything back together and put in rack ready for next shave.
After each shave. My 3 piece razors, take apart and rinse, towel dry, pat dry blade, TTO's, open, remove blade, rinse and shake dry, pat dry blade. (never wipe a blade unless honing) always put back blade. Every few months scrub razors with Scrubbing Bubbles or toothpaste and brush when needed.
I disassemble the razor, remove the blade, rinse it off, pat dry and sit the blade on an inverted Dixie cup; dry off the razor, reassemble loosely and place it in my razor rack. Blade is discarded after 4 shaves into a homemade blade bank.
I usually rinse razor, take blade out, dry razor, and I put a small amount of DIY pre-shave oil on the blade. I'm not sure if the last part helps or not, but I like to think it either helps the blade, or makes the next shave smoother.
I rinse razor and blade well without disassembling, shake, and leave on counter to dry. I agree with other comments, why baby something that cost pennies? I do use a blade until it begins to not give a good shave. That might be in the middle of the first shave, or 8 shaves later. Depending on the brand, I typically get from 3 to 8 shaves with 3 passes plus touch up, and I have a fairly tough beard. Probably 4 to 5 most of the time.
You're already doing more than necessary! Rinse, shake and let it dry till next shave. That's all. All that disassembling and whatnot is not for the razors sake, but for your own enjoyment. It's not necessary, but of course it wont harm either.
Rinse razor/blade, remove blade, towel try razor, hand strop blade, the blade goes into the next razor in the rotation. New blade in on Monday, use every day in different razor, toss after Friday's shave.
Rinse with blade in. Leave the head cracked open and leave on a high shelf. Before the next shave I turn the blade over....I dunno why but that's what my dad allus did. Leave assembled razor in the hot water while lathering. After that shave dump the blade and rinse the razor. 2 shaves per blade. Thoroughly clean razor once a month. However the DE is my Monday to Thursday shave and my straight is my weekend shave.
I just rinse it off and leave it on the counter with the 2 or 3 others in the current lineup. When the blade is finished I clean the razor let it dry and pick another. The only razor that stays on deck is the Mongoose and it gets cleaned when the blade gets changed.
